Default Any LEGO builders out there?

I was on Boeing's website a few moments ago looking for something else when I decided to "pop in" to their online store and noticed a build set of a 777 produced by a company called Cobi Toys. Incredibly similar to LEGO. To those of you who build LEGOs: Do you have any experience building any of their sets? I'm assuming the quality isn't as good as LEGO given the low prices, but I could be wrong.

I'm not familiar with that brand. My wife bought this Star Trek Enterprise that was an off-brand and she seemed to think it was okay. I don't really have the best experience to compare -- the only LEGO sets I have bought in recent memory were Steamboat Willie and the Disney Train & Station and I bought those because they were Disney...not because I'm really into LEGO's.

I'm not a LEGO collector but I've enjoyed building the sets. Cobi also produces a set for a London bus (ripoff of LEGO but at a fraction of the cost) which I'm very interested in. My last day at work was 31 December and I'm using the time I have off to study and do prep work for the course I'm taking in April. But I thought it would be nice to have a bit of a distraction when I grow tired of studying. When time for me to move to London I'd leave the sets here for my housemate's grandson to build.

I remember seeing the Asiana build kits before. So cool!

I didn't see the Concorde! Okay, I'm buying that today. And I've done further research on the London Transport bus. It's actually pretty accurate except for the decals.

Thanks!

Seems to be a few Boeings, 737max 787 777 777x
Bus is slightly smaller 1/35th 27cm long than the lego 34cm? Think lego is 1:24

I'll have to check out the 787. I wasn't all that impressed with LEGO's version.

Yes, their London Transport is a bit smaller than LEGO's but no matter. It'll just be fun to build it! And I've checked with my housemate and he said his grandson would love to build these later on after I move to London. I'll be sure to disassemble them properly for him.

I have several tanks, the U-48 submarine, the Concorde and the Yamato battleship from Cobi. Fantastic models. A lot of pieces for a good price. And no copy of Lego: the bricks are compatible with Lego but the designs are original from Cobi. They match very well the real thing (sometimes I changed a few things to make it better). Of course not the details of diecast and plastic models but still very nice. I have also models from Kazi, Xingbao and Lele Brother. Chinese brands also with their own designs (no copy of Lego models): aircraft carriers (almost 1 meter long), battleships, Russian missiles like the SA-2.

Thanks so much! One thing I've noticed between the two manufacturers is that Cobi uses rounded pieces on their aircraft sets for the nose cone unlike LEGO which is very blocky of course. Same goes for the London Transport bus. Sadly for me, Concorde isn't available in America so I'll have to have it shipped from the UK.

They actually offer after school Lego classes in my son's elementary school! I am so jealous! He's into all Lego, City, Creator, Technic, etc.. Must take him to a Legoland park sometime in the future. Cool thread! Cheers! T7

They're so much fun to build. I've built a good number of sets over the years but all that remains is a LEGO Creator London bus. (Surprised much?) It takes up very little real estate on my bedside stand. The three Cobi sets I'll be buying are pretty large but I'm buying them to build when I need a distraction from studying. When I'm done with them, I'll disassemble them and leave them here for my housemate's grandson to build.

Nope. I'm 61 and love building LEGOs. A former housemate now pushing 50 owns a three bedroom house, one bedroom of which is entirely dedicated to LEGOs. He even has a barrister bookcase in his bedroom filled with completed LEGO trains some of which he custom built. (He's a light rail operator and loves trains.) He's actually the person who got me interested in LEGOs.

Cobi, from what I know of, is very high quality, based in Poland.

Thank you! And on that recommendation, along with another, I purchased the London Transport bus and the British Airways Concorde! I wanted the B787 but I only have two and a half months before moving to London and not knowing how much time I'll have to build these, I hesitated buying it.

Years ago I resurrected my son's Legos to create a modest 1:400 airline terminal that looked reasonably good. A few jetways and it was complete. I have a few photos with it in the background. Need for space resulted in its demolition and the pieces once again reside in storage for the day I hope a grandchild will enjoy them.
