I know nothing of him or his sport, but that’s a real tragedy, especially the loss of his young daughter too. The family must be devastated. Condolences to all involved, very sad.

Neil.

It was a real crappy Sunday. Not only Kobe and daughter, but the seven others aboard. I was watching the LA news, and they showed the names and photos of all aboard. Flying is so much fun and safe, but when it goes wrong, it really goes wrong. Very sad for everyone.

I was staying just outside Calibasas (Woodland Hills) where the copter went down having just left the day before the crash, the weather had been foggy for the several days I was there. LAX even shut down due to fog on Saturday. Based on the wreckage it looks like the pilot flew it right into the hillside at speed. Sad day for all...

Yes all the LAPD copters were grounded. Not sure why that guy thought he could.

I deleted his post the first time, and then he posts it again. He is on a 30 day hiatus right now. How tasteless..

Based on some more info on the news, I wonder if it was a mechanical issue. At the end he was climbing to avoid the terrain, and then suddenly diving off to the left.

The NTSB, is asking the public for any footage showing weather conditions near the site of impact. Clearly, they know it was foggy, but I guess they want to see actual stills or video. This story is simply sad. That poor man, who lost his wife. He now has to bring up three children on his own. I can't imagine.

I did hear this morning that there were some mountain bikers who were right by the crash scene and got some video. Said it went right over them and a door landed quite near them.

Very sad indeed.

I noticed the dirt trails cut through the grass. I figured joggers and bikers use the area. I am sure the NTSB will want to see the bikers video.

We see how so many families have been shattered. I've been praying for all those who lost someone since this sad news came out. Puts collecting model airplanes in perspective. Let's enjoy but respect along the way, and be thankful during the process.

Well from recent news reports looks like the company operating the helicopter was allegedly not certified to operate in the weather condition present at the time of flight!
