Default Neil Peart passes at 67

I was sad to read this today. What I believe, as do many, probably the best drummer ever. Way to young. I saw them a couple of times. Really enjoyed both shows.

Definitely sad and very unexpected news. I saw RUSH three times and he was undoubtedly the best drummer out there.

Very sad news indeed. Music has lost another legend.

A rare gem, both talented and humble who overcame terrible personal losses to carry on. I was a huge Rush fan too. "Suddenly you were gone from all the lives you left your mark upon..." Sleep well Mr Peart.

Very sorry to hear about Neil. My buddy was from Hamilton and was a huge Rush fan; he attended about 14 of their concerts, I was into other groups during my younger years but only started to appreciate their music later. I think based on Neil's longevity playing the drums, he has to be considered one of the greatest or if not the GOAT!

Video clip of them in Toronto playing 'Spirit of Radio'; the washing machines going on stage was the best! !

If my memory serves me correct, I think our High School (Sir Winston Churchill) in Thunder Bay, Ontario had banned them from playing at our school gym due to Rush being too loud! ! Student body was not very happy with the Principal.

...back in the day if that happened at our HS we would have prank called the principle in the middle of the night cranking RUSH over the phone and drove by his house doing the same!

I love it! Too funny! The city bulldozed over my old high school about a year and half ago in 2018.

For all his success in life, he had some really terrible things happen to him. It must be close to 20 years ago now, he got on his motorcycle, (which he also would ride between concerts), and went for a LONG ride. Sort out his thoughts. He would stop in tiny towns, and eat at truck stop type places. Have talks with people, who had NO idea who he was. He would send Alex and Geddy postcards. He would say something on the postcard, only the 3 of them would know. So they knew it was him. What a HUGE loss.

That's right and may I recommend his Ghost Rider book which chronicles that difficult journey. The three members of Rush had lots of different nicknames for each other, Neil would use one or another on those postcards so they would know they were bona fide.

Another wonderful version of one of my favourite's. Complete with humorous intro, which they became known for. Rest in peace Neil.

One of my all time rock and drumming Heroes! Being a drummer myself,I had the hugest respect for this musical virtuoso. Rush being a big band favourite of mine too,he played such a significant role in the huge success of the band. I together with millions will miss him a lot!! He's probably having a good catch up with the many lost music heroes up in rock heaven!! May he RIP.
Does anyone know what site I can go on to pay my online tributes?

I thought to myself, I hope his daughter is the first person he sees.

This isn't in anyway "official" but it's the best piece I've read yet and by a close friend of Neil and the band by virtue of his writing about them over the years. You can write your own thoughts at the end and I've no doubt Geddy and Alex will see this at some stage.

You might find there's something in your eyes as you read though ...

Yes of course!! How could I deny that!
I was referring to the musical icons that have passed in the last few years, when I referred to this! Trying to add something in a lighter nature and a musical sense! Hope you can now see what I was trying to say here!

It's his earthly daughter I feel sorry for, poor kid losing her dad at ten years old. Neil now reunited with his first dauhter and wife whilst leaving his second daughter and second wife behind. It's a sad state of affairs alright.

As a drummer myself, it really hurts to lose one of my first heroes. I had just found out a week or so before his death was announced that he also participated in 24 Hours of Lemons racing (as I do as well) and was hoping to someday meet him at the track.

Chronicled on his website here:
Welcome to the official website of Neil Peart

I'm a big listener to Planet Rock and they had a dedication hour to Neil and played an interview from sometime back with one of the presenters ( Mark Jeeves) which was very fortunate as Neil was not one for interviews. A great listen into how the great man operated! In the interview they played some of Rush's finest aswell as one of Neil's awesome drum solos. (Ive watched many of his drum solos and they NEVER fail to make the hairs stick up, each and every time!!) Anyway this a highly recommended listen. Apparently there's the prospect of erecting a statue of him in his hometown ( which I'm behind 100%). There's also the option given to Neil's devoted followers to make any financial contribution to any cancer charity and to put this in his name!! A fantastic idea which I'm more than happy to do for this great cause and in the name of my hero!!

This drummer is clearly a serious musician. Look at his set up. Also clearly, a huge Neil/Rush fan. I remember an interview with Alex a few years ago. He said playing Rush music for 3 hours is tiring. That is on guitar. Can you imagine what it was like for Neil! This video is a small taste of how much is going on in a Rush song. Still can't believe he is gone.
