Default Al Haynes pilot UA Flight 232 has passed away. RIP

Rest in peace, sir. You and your flight crew saved many lives that day. It was a miracle that some of the passengers survived that horrific crash after viewing it on video; and more shocking that some of them walked away from the burning sections of the plane.

Al Haynes, pilot of United Flight 232 and reluctant hero, dies 30 years after deadly crash in Iowa.

Al Haynes was the guest speaker at the 1992 Airliners International Convention in Orange County CA. He was nice enough to sign a flight miniatures Saul Bass DC-10 I had. He was easily approachable and very nice to talk too.

Oh man sad to hear that.

If you get a chance - watch the film as "1000 Heroes" aka "Crash Landing: The Rescue of Flight 232"
I have a copy of the NTSB report and the final part of the R/T on cassette transcribed from the original recording. Thats a harrowing experience listening to that.
