Extremely reasonably priced as well. I may consider giving up my 2014 Vette for this one, but not my collection

Russ, same here. Had no interest in the Corvette until 2014, when they revamped it. It just seems to be getting better each year. Sleek, quick and a whole lot of fun. Actually, I wouldn't and couldn't trade it. It only has 5400 miles on it.

Yo. I am but a casual observer to the Corvette World, but there can be no argument that as much as your normal 'Vette driver may be regarded as a total jerk, he is wise enough to know that he is driving the world's best value sports car. Recently, the CR.7 is as competitive as any on the world stage. We're I a younger man, and a deft driver, I would go Corvette. Meanwhile, I'm stuck in the '50s. The attached pix were taken two weeks ago in Kollmar, northern Germany. A '53 or '54 tri-carbed, Blue Flame straight six, with auto tranny. Never been a more beautiful 'Vette, and where I a wild and crazy guy, that would be my ride. Doug

I like the late 60's big block vettes...love the 427!

I miss my 74 Trans Am Super Duty 455 I had in high school between 79 & 81! A torque monster she was!

Definately not! No room for the weekly shop, very expensive on gas and insurance and would be scared to leave it parked in a public car park!

Actually, you would be surprised how good on gas late model Corvettes are even with their big displacement engines. they get better highway mileage than my 2nd car, a Mazda MX-5 (or Mark 3 in the UK) with a 2.0L 4 banger!

That said... the only Vette i ever really liked were the mid 60s Stingrays with a small block 327 ci. the Big block 427 just threw the center of balance way off due to the weight of those engines.

When's the last time you 'broke one in on the autobahn'? You'll have to go out at 2AM, otherwise, you'll have to piddle along with the Opels and everything else under speed limited traffic. Yeah, at 2AM, you may be able to peg your M2. And why did BMW recently withdraw from WEC racing? Couldn't keep up with the big dogs, I guess... Doug

To each his own. You have to limit break-in speed to 100MPH so the Autobahn is good for that. And yes the unlimited speed zones are not as plentiful as they used to be.

And Austria doesn't have them anymore.

Nice!

Is that a '69 in the one year only Riverside Gold? my mother bought one brand new in that color, but with a 350/350. i just have a thing for the '64~'67s, don't care for the split window look '63s.

........any early Chevy is better than a beemer!

...it sure is. I had the chance to trade my tricked out 1971 Camaro for a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 manual back in 1981. It was a beautiful car! Orange exterior, black stripes, with black interior. I drove it and thought at the time it was too big! How time changes ones perspective!

Best way to tell the difference between the '53 and '54 (besides the engine) is the longer tailpipes on the '54. The short pipes on the first version sooted up the rear of the car, so they lengthened them. Also, the '53 only came in Polo White, with red interior. The pictured car is a '54 in the same color scheme, but 6 other colors were available.

A friend of mine gets one every two years. Drives the two hours down to the Bowling Green plant, watches it being assembled and drives it home. 2020 is time for the same routine.

Thanks, Steve. At some point they dropped in a V8 into this chassis, maybe in '55? That would've been my choice, Doug

I'm waiting for the 2020 Genesis G70 Coupe. Such a beautiful car, when I saw the pictures for the first time I couldn't even take my eyes off it for minutes lol. I even tried to talk my wife into selling the property in Germany that left from her father years ago for buying one of these babies but she doesn't seem to like this idea as she threatened me with divorce

Lol. If you happen to have a polished Eastern L-1011 by InFlight, I would like to do business. Seems that people are willing to shell out $300 bucks for 'em now.

I gave up fast cars and jumping out airplanes to get married 30 years ago. Never regretted that choice. But... If we are sidebarring on cars, the most fun money I made was betting the Bimmers, Mercs, Audi's, 2 Lambo's and, of course, Vettes with my '63 lightweight "R" car with a 427 CU in (cross-bolt mains- the real 427), medium riser Mercury S-55. Originally a Parnelli Jones promo car. VERY SLEEPERISH! Featured 3.83 gear, traction lock, with a top-loader. Giant sway bars (police package suspension) with the one excellent upgrade- disk brakes. Whadda brute with a custom exhaust featuring electric ball-screw activated cut-outs. I suspect that once I opened the cut-outs and launched a fair amount of pants got filled next to me. Made many dollars running from Oakbrook to Elmhurst on RT.83 in Illinois. Never once did I see tail lights! When done my two year's of fun, I sold that car to a Ford Exec and with the proceeds I was able to pay cash for my first house.

Tom (I still like airplanes more)

Yeah, I would. The car would be way easier to resell and certainly worth more than my collection.

I'm definitely not a Corvette fan, IMO the European & Japanese sport cars are way nicer looking & better performance as well.. but as a Die hard Ferrari fan i would gladly give up my entire Die-cast airplane collection for this Italian beauty!!

Huh? Agree that the Ferrari's are the real lookers (and always have been), but performance wise? WEC and IMSA racing are currently very balanced, with the Ferraris, Lambos, Audis, Beemers, 'Vettes, Aston Martins, Fords, and Porsches (with even Mercedes rearing it's ugly head) all competitive, altho Porsche dominates at the moment, and don't forget the mid-engined CR8 debuts this year. We lived in Frankfurt for three years when my dad was stationed there. In 1966, he took my oldest brother to that year's ADAC-1000-km-Rennen Nürburgring. This is when I learned of the Chaparral race car. Amazingly, they got seats across from the pits. My dad took pictures of different makes but it was the white #7 Chaparral that caught my attention as a youngster.

Thanks, Steve - also for your EAL DC-9-14 which holds a special place in my collection.

OK, a couple more pix from the '64 Reims 12 hrs. The Shelby Ford Daytona GT, and the first racing season for the Ford GT 40s. I had recently flunked out of college, was in the army 10 days later, and in France three months later - nasty duty, but somebody had to do it... In the GT 40 shot, that's Phil Hill hard left with back to camera, and four from left facing the sun is John Wyer. Flunking out was the best thing that happened to me - missed Vietnam, too. And the Chaparral raised hell, eh? Doug

More great pics. The color shot is historical from the American perspective. In '64, John Wyer was just getting his feat wet in managing those Ford GT 40s. And Phil Hill had already left Ferrari to drive for Cooper that year. Hill would eventually drive both the Ford GT 40s and Chevy Chaparrals. In fact, Hill and Jo Bonnier won that '66 Nürburgring race in the Chaparral 2D. Thanks for posting these pics and yeah, I always liked those cute AC DC-9-10s

Ever since I came across the Ford GTs in summer of '64, I've been a fan, and if the Corvettes and the Fords are running in the same race, I'll go for the Fords. My pix from the 2016 12 Hours of Sebring - it's a rough track, hard on the cars, and an hour from my house. Doug

The Ford GTs are beautiful and accomplished what they had to in '66 onwards. Really enjoyed the recent movie, Ford v Ferrari.

There is currently available a NETFLIX documentary titled SHELBY AMERICAN. Of all the media coverage of the Cobra/GT 40 development/successes, this is in my estimate far and away the best. A realistic portrayal without the fluff. Doug

My brother told me about the NETFLIX documentary but I'm not interested in subscribing to them. In fact, the only television I watch is YouTube. And the only Hollywood movie I saw in 2019 was Ford v Ferrari. That speaks volumes because I do not support the so-called "woke elites" of Hollywood. YouTube does have one documentary on Shelby which was pretty good. There are also good books on Shelby and the team of Chaparral.
