Unfortunately you can write all the laws you want and put all the counter measures in place, but if someone is in a bad mental state none of these totally stop such tragedies. We have seen it with other tragedies and some use different weapons of choice; ie, guns, knives, BIO/Chemical, laced Coolaide, Cars, Trucks, Planes, box cutters...etc. etc. etc. Wait add social media and technology as is will be a contributor that leads some down the slippery slop and will eventually erode society as a whole! Another issue is the breakdown of families where youth are without proper parenting/guidance/nurturing or a positive role model to which they can turn to for help in a time of need. Laws that have made role models such as parents, teachers, etc. fearful of disciplining youth as a consequence for bad behavior is an enabler and perpetuates youth set on the wrong path. Back in the day when young individuals were brought before a judge in a court of law, the judge sometimes gave a choice of jail or join the military...also when was the last time anyone saw inmates picking up trash on the side of the road with a couple deputies looking over them holding shotguns! Mental health issues need to be taken seriously and not brushed aside!

While I agree with most of what you state above, having gun control laws is one of many steps needing to be taken in this country. Australia has strict gun control laws and they have not had a mass shooting since 1996. I agree, someone who is set on killing people will find a way; however, a person cannot mass kill with a knife, acid, or box cutters. And getting a car, truck, or plane into a school hallway is significantly more difficult than getting a gun in one.

Unfortunately, mental health is such a stigma in this country. It is my understanding the shooter had been receiving treatment at a mental health clinic, but stopped going about a year ago. At that point, the clinic should have reported it to someone.

Below is the list of top 10 (for each of Senate and House) career recipients of NRA funding. 11 of the 20 on the list have received well over $1 million. This needs to stop.

don't give 'em ideas... they may pursue this course relentlessly. or if the killing of innocent children is so obnoxious, why have children.

r.i.p, little ones... and the brave who died protecting others.

Congrats on killing any chance of reasonable dialogue by putting your viewpoints on a pedestal.

Interesting to see school kids getting involved and talking about what they can, as let's face it they're the victims along with the teachers. If they actually manage to pull off the strike in April it would be a huge statement to those in power. Will they listen, I dunno, but it's great to see the younger generations getting involved in a huge scale rather than just vigils.

Sadly,if nothing changed after Sandy Hook,I don't know what it will take? Murder 20 1st graders with an AR-15,it gives me chills thinking about it. Suffering families and friends in Florida right now,are in my thoughts. This can't be allowed to happen again.

I think it's sadder than that, nothing has changed after Columbine and that was in 1999.

True enough. President Reagan, made owning weapons like this, illegal. Can anyone tell me why that was overturned in 2004? If I have this wrong, please correct me.
