Default The US bans Electronic Items !.

I really don't know what's the news and it's going on since the morning (Indian Standard Time) and after a few deleted Tweet of the Royal Jordanian Airlines

And it's suspected that US has banned all electronic items except
Mobile and medical Equipment on all flights from 9-10 Middle East countries..
And the ban extends on laptops and iPads and what not ..

Can anyone clarify or correct the above written statements

Wouldn't it effect the Huge Airlines !? Like Emirates, Qatar, Etihad etc and certainly HUGE business opportunities for other carriers like Lufthansa, Air India, Singapore Airlines, Cathay etc

What a turn of events

Let's Keep ourselves posted and PLEASE correct or Update the NEWS .

Regards
Karan

Yikes! Something tells me that this is just the beginning of more strict regulations being implemented later on. Thank you to both gentlemen for the heads up. T7

US should probably ban passengers from boarding airliners, it should solve everything...

From what I understand, the ban is for carry-on baggage. Travelers can still pack the electronics in a checked bag. The airports are in Cairo; Istanbul; Kuwait City; Doha, Qatar; Casablanca, Morocco; Amman, Jordan; Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and Dubai and Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates.

Apparently Royal Jordanian flights to Montreal are doing the same thing.

It seems terrorists are getting their way more and more, as they ruin the freedom of the passengers, this is so over exaggerated lmao
I laugh about it because I find it funny that some people can be so stupid.

This won't solve anything, it's more like avoiding a proper solution for a major but simple problem

What if the US implemented a temporary travel ban from several specific nations embroiled in turmoil and rife with terrorism?

Now I have some excuse not to open MS Excel spreadsheet during business trip to US, and just keep simply say "Sorry Boss, I am not allowed to work during flight by Mr. President"

Thank you, Mr. President!

The travel ban has already been strucked down or put on hold so far by multiple judges. Aside from constitutional problems, it won't really work to ban from travelers from specific nations. It's not very hard for terrorists to just fly from another country.

Print media may make a comeback if this keeps up, boring flights will get more boring.

It becomes considerably harder for terrorists to travel anywhere from nations with stable governments.

Stable governments = stronger screening for terrorists at airports.

The electronics ban is the dumbest idea. Stowing away your electronics in checked baggage isn't the solution. Wasn't the Lockerbie tragedy caused by a bomb in a radio with a pressure switch in a checked bag?

True. Let us not forget this horrific B747 bombing :

Air India Flight 182 was an Air India flight operating on the Vancouver–Toronto–Montreal–London–Delhi route. On 23 June 1985, the Boeing 747-237B serving the flight (c/n 21473/330, registration VT-EFO, "Emperor Kanishka") was destroyed by a bomb at an altitude of 31,000 feet (9,400*m). It crashed into the Atlantic Ocean while in Irish airspace. It was the first bombing of a 747 jumbo jet. A total of 329 people were killed, including 268 Canadian citizens, 27 British citizens and 24 Indian citizens.[1] The incident was the largest mass murder in Canadian history. It was the deadliest terrorist attack involving an airplane until the September 11, 2001, attacks.[2] It is also the deadliest aircraft bombing.[3] The bombing of Air India 182 occurred at the same time as the Narita Airport bombing. Investigators believe that the two plots were linked, and that those responsible were aiming for a double bombing. However, the bomb at Narita exploded before it could be loaded onto the plane.

Our intelligence has received credible information that terrorists have developed laptop explosive batteries. So ban makes sense.

I do recall the inflight bombing that was initiated by Somali airport security staff. They gave a passenger a laptop equipped with a bomb. The bomb exploded during the flight and created a gaping hole big enough in the cabin to only suck out and kill the terrorist bomber. Plane landed safely without severe injuries to pax and crew.

Good thing Somali is on the "travel ban" list then.

Based on Somali Airport Security staff providing the means for the 'deceased' bomber to carry out their plan. I would think Somali should be at the top of that list.

Bad enough we have to contend with such passengers trying to take out commercial airplanes, now we have to take into consideration the 'people' that we entrusted at the Airports for our well being. T7

Will be interesting to see how Samsung's latest flagship the Galaxy S8 will perform? It has a big hill to climb after the big snafu with their Note 7 phones.

I totally disagree with this, it won't stop anything. It's just another annoyance for the 99.999999999999% of passengers who aren't terrorists. The TSA is also ramping up their "enhanced screening" in which they fondle your crotch and chest. I can't wait to see what's next...

I live in Europe here we don't have such useless changes, as it changes nothing to the matter.
As being Dutch this is gladly not like USA, that to which I am very thankful for tbh, no need for over exaggerated changes that have no effect, a total waste of time.

They need to invest for better scanning equipment to seep out the dangerous ones, these bans are useless and pointless, Terrorists will always find ways around them, now if there were ways for avoiding that, that would be more useful, over these pointless bans.

I agree with more improved scanning equipment. Looks like some airports are testing such equipment.

The US has been at war with the Middle East for generations and had bombed six of the seven countries on the ban list.

How could anyone ever suggest that there should not be strong border regulations when dealing with travels from countries you are at war with? Don't forget that the Allies interned Italians, Germans, and Japanese during WWII.

Why the ban only applies to these 9 airlines flying to US: Turkish Airlines, Egypt Air, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Kuwait Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Qatar Airways, Emirates Airlines and Eithad Airways?

You mean the dumb terrorists only fly those airlines.

The recent British Parliament bombing means that the terrorist can be of any Nationality.

He could still carry his rigged up laptop onto British Airways, Qantas, American Airlines, Singapore Airlines or Air Canada from anywhere.

BAN All laptop on abroad all Airlines!!!

I feel this was more of a protectionist policy than immigration or security policy. Its funny how if your travelling with a US airline from these countries you can keep your electronics.

This comes a few weeks after the US3 were lobbying to get emirates and etihad out of some routes into north America. They want to protect their ****ty airlines who can't compete and take larger subsides from the government than emirates or etihad or Qatar.

Business travel through the middle East hub on towards Asia and Australia will be hugely affected and will effect the ME3 the most

Looks like Emirates will be implementing a partial solution to this new ban. Will other Middle Eastern airlines follow their lead?

Emirates just thought up a brilliant way to work around the US's ban on laptops in cabins

I have to agree with [email protected] that this is an indirect way of helping the US airlines. I was shopping for a pair of tickets to JFK airport. The best deals happen to come from the ban list of airlines and those from China.

Well, it looks like Qatar Airways is trying to help with the ban.

I don't see it as a problem for business professionals, due to Cloud computing. However, I don't think there will be any USB ports on these loaner laptops for several security reasons on both sides (pax and Qatar)
