Interesting, I could've sworn last year you were really knocking this store down? While I did my best to prop this store up during their difficult times; even had the Super Moderator/Lou slap my hand that I couldn't mention AV World on the DAC; since it was not a sponsor retailer??? Has there been a change in direction for 2017 for 'non-sponsor' retailers on the DAC ?

Yep, I was blown away when I visited them last month, and checked out their new layout and overstocked shelves. I complimented the owners and staff on a job well done with their re-launch of the store and backing up my statements on the DAC that AV World would rise again just like the Phoenix!

Bravo to AV World and their management and staff! Also, I'll give the OP props for putting up this thread for AV World; hopefully this thread won't be removed for 'non-sponsorship' reasons. Cheers! T7

Last year the store deserved the comments I made and IMO they are still a long way from perfect but they are moving in the right direction. Thanks for bvring up my historical negative comments as I didn't wouldnt have mentioned them until you raised them.

The revamp still could just be lipstick on a pig but the virtual tour shows how a store should market itself.

I will agree with you on that Aviation World probably deserved your 'own' personal comments on the state they were in; but providing 'doom and gloom' comments about their business on this forum was not appreciated by them and other loyal customers of their store.

Oh, you are quite welcome about bringing up your past DAC comments on AV World; but I do admire the fact you are now giving them credit to start off 2017.

I assure you from speaking with the staff/owners at AV World; you won't find any lipstick anywhere close to this store. Business has been going in the right direction (UP)!

Yeah, the VR tour is thumbs up for those who are unable to physically visit their store. Other brick n mortar stores should follow their lead as well. Again, kudos to you for posting the AV World YYZ VR tour on the DAC.

I did playfully suggest to the owners/staff on making a particular layout change to their checkout area. But, it was declined/rejected! ! Oh well, I tried.

Cheers! T7

Yep, I also posted some negative comments about another brick n mortar store last year on the DAC. I've taken the steps in 2017 to make sure that never happens again on my part. Cheers! T7

Yep. It was a very cool way to kick off 2017.

There was another AV World customer/great friend of mine/master collector who suggested that I take my Go-Pro camera and walk around their store last year when all the new inventory was overflowing their shelves. We brought it up with the staff and they mentioned that they were going to put that idea into a holding pattern until the new store layout was finalized. Glad AV World YYZ came through with the VR Tour for 2017. Cheers! T7

I continue to stand behind my 'negative' comments. Lat year I pointed out their prices were higher than the store down the street in a number of instances - that remains true today and is obvious by looking at their respective web site prices. Second, the 'inventory' shown on line has little correlation with what seems to be on the shelves during the 'walk through'. Why show out of stock items for example?

Since you seem to have their ear, perhaps you can advise them of these issues and advise here when they are rectified. Some examples follow:

WestJet 1:200 scale B737-700 diecast model

WestJet 737-700 1/200 Scale - Threshold Aviation

Westjet Encore Dash 8-400 1:200 scale model by Gemini Jets - 1:200 scale - Diecast ? Airliner & Civilian - Models

Gemini200 Westjet Q400 - Threshold Aviation

Icelandair B757-200W Hekla Aurora from Gemini Jets 1:200 TF-TIU - 1:200 scale - Diecast ? Airliner & Civilian - Models

Gemini200 Icelandair 757-200 "Hekla Aurora" - Threshold Aviation

Hey, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I will look into this during my next trip to AV World YYZ. True, if you are going to show an 'out of stock' item online, you should state when the next shipment date for the product will be made available for the customer. If not, have a 'please call for further details on the product availability date'.

When I googled their location I see they are directly across the street from the airport. 2 questions:

What is the small building with all the airbridges protruding out directly across the street?

And what is the building on the other side of the airport next to Yes Air Express Canada with all the airbridges sticking out??

ASIG Canada

Locations - ASIG

That is a garage actually and not an Airbridge

All righty! Just came back from AVWorld YYZ this evening. Here's some feedback from the staff:

- they are willing to discuss price matching (with Threshold) on an item you have in question

- yes, they are aware that the present website they have is not the best for displaying 'current' products in their inventory. This problem will soon be resolved with their 'new' website that will be implemented. In the meantime, they suggest that customers call the store in regards to any products in question.

Cheers! T7 (if any DAC members have any other questions about AV World YYZ, I suggest you contact (phone/email) them directly.

Hey great timing with your question. Yes, I was chatting with Andy this evening at AV World YYZ. I agree with your statement above about him. By the way, did you ever see the news report on him? It was in my thread in the 1:1 section on the planned YYZ viewing platform. Cheers! T7

You are quite welcome. Glad to help out a fellow DAC member/collector.

I'd like to add that in addition to Andy, you also have the likes of Mark, Fred, Steve and Gary that provide great customer service as well. Cheers! T7

Thanks for the update. If I understand correctly what you have said is for 1/200 purchases , one should buy what you can at a likely lower price at Threshold vs having to haggle at Avworld to maybe get the same price if they have stock?

Hey there, I think the price matching would cover any particular product; not just 1/200 models.

You actually haggle with these 2 'brick n mortar' retailers?

So, I am guessing this is your modus operandi:

1. You call Threshold up and ask for a particular product they have in stock and request their price.

2. Then you call AV World for the same product and ask for their price.

3. If the prices are the same, do you purchase from Threshold? I am guessing that's a 'Yes'.

4. If AV World's price is higher, you point that out to their staff and you want them to price match? Or price match and take an extra 10% off the price as well? What is AV World's typical response to you when you mention their next door neighbors have it at a lower price?

5. If Threshold's price is higher, do you call Threshold back and mention that their next door neighbor's price is lower? Do you request that Threshold should give you a lower price for the product or just match the price?

Sorry for all the questions above, but I personally don't know what happens when you play 2 brick n mortar stores off each other for a particular product you want.

I guess I am quite appreciative and happy that I have a brick n mortar store that I can pop in and physically inspect the models/products in my hand; and at the same time have a great discussion with the staff and owners. So, whatever price they've put on that box; I am quite content with based on all the other personal factors that have accumulated over the years with doing business with them. In addition, I'm also guessing that other financial factors come into play when AV World determines their retail prices.

Those personal factors involve the following ( always helping me out with any inquiries I may have; keeping an eye out for me on particular models that may have eluded my attention; letting me know that my models have arrived; sharing some stories that relate to aviation and non-aviation items; having a good laugh; etc..). That's why I make sure that staff at my brick n mortar store are having several Tim's coffee on me during the holidays.

Cheers! T7

Like I mentioned earlier, the staff at AV World would be more than willing to discuss your price matching inquiries. Give them a ring; it's a new year!

I spoke to Threshold last week, and I personally appreciated the staff for confirming something for me. They backed up and supported the same thing that the AV World staff had brought to my attention.

I just had a vision of you, based on you being at YYZ on occasion.

So, the picture/video I am getting is seeing you walk from Threshold and taking the 80 odd steps over to AV World where you haggle with them. Then walking the 80 steps back over to Threshold with your AV World info. Does this seem correct to you? Or do you take another walking trip back over to AV World, based on the response from Threshold?

Or did I get the order mixed up? You start your price haggling mission at AV World first?

I see where price haggling for an automobile would come into play, due to the fact that you will probably never see that salesman again or deal with him after the papers are signed.

But, price haggling with retailers associated with your hobby; knowing that you interact with them on a weekly or monthly basis would feel a bit 'low' on my part. But that's just me, also since you are not geographically able to personally see them on a regular basis, I can see where that personal 'detachment' feeling could come into play for you. I can't speak for either retailer, but in the retail world they label such customers as P-I-N-T-A.

Cheers! T7

I am cool on this thread. As you can see, no insults or negative comments were made to the OP. I've actually commended him for promoting AV World with this thread. I'm actually shocked/surprised that this thread has not been removed, due to the SuperModerator (is he on vacation?) not taking a liking to anything related to non-sponsor retailers on the DAC being mentioned/promoted. Maybe there's been a change in policy for 2017?

Just now helping out Yowguy with his price haggling questions. I was a bit curious and wanted to be enlightened on how he performs his price haggling between AV World and Threshold. I spoke to Andy and he's always willing to price match any particular product with their neighbor. So, we have Yowguy saying they don't price match, but we have the AV World Manager saying they would price match. I advised yowguy to contact AV World YYZ for any product he's looking to purchase, and also mention that Threshold has the exact same product on their shelves as well; and take it from there. In addition, I resolved his issue in regards to AV World's current website showing out of date stock. All in all, Ive been more than helpful in assisting him with his questions he posed to me; due to him thinking I have the ears of AV World YYZ. In return, I wanted to be enlightened on his price haggling between the 2 stores; since I would not even consider putting these 2 stores against eachother for product prices.

That would be the new Terminal One. I much prefered the original one as it was awesome to see planes from the Parking garage

Second question answer is. Infield Terminal area

They built this just in case of Overflow and such. Also Cargo area around there, where several planes are parked. Saw Antonov there, etc

The rest of that area is Westjet cargo, De-icing area, etc. This is all within the boundaries of Pearson.

I like going to the Infield area to get some photos of planes going by.

If I guessed correctly it is a remanent of the old Terminal 2 which served the short haul Transborder carriers like Jazz. Yo my knowledge it no loner serves any passenger role [but I wouldnt be the paycheque on that]. I think Leslies comments on ASIG using it now are valid now but here is a pic of where I think you are asking about and which shows some Dash 8's using it.

Bill

It appears the 'new' avworld site is up and again the inventory online doesnt correlate with what they say they have in stock elsewhere. Currently show 3 HM in stock.

Search results for: 'hobby master'

versus a picture posted yesterday. maybe they arent done yet.

And for those of you not familiar with the old YYZ Terminal 1 which we all miss due to the great viewing potential, a picture is below. The squarestructure was parking and every floor every side was open to see the ramp below and the arrivals and departures on 14/32. Yes, it was 14/32 back then.

The curved structure overlooking the Mudguard and 707 was a resteraunt which gave a great view and as I recall, a reasonably priced meal
