Default 25th Anniversary Pan Am shut down

Today marks the 25th Anniversary of the shut down of Pan Am. Having two family members out of work that day at MIA, my Dad and my brother.... it was a very sad day. My Dad worked for National Airlines since 1965 and continued on thru the merger till Pan Ams demise.

Very sad. Thank you for the link.

I found this excerpt heartbreaking. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but did AA Flight 587 fly the route to the Dominican because of Pan Am's demise?

"Estelle Lessack, the president of Travel Trends in Fort Lee, N.J., said that she did not avoid Pan Am outright in her bookings but added, "If there was another option, I usually took the other option."
She said that many of her clients were reluctant to fly Pan Am mainly because of memories of the loss of one of its Boeing 747's in an explosion over Lockerbie, Scotland, that killed all aboard."

If you want, share an interesting or funny story your dad told you about during his career with National/Pan Am?

I brought some of my 1:400 Pan Am models to a retired Pan Am pilot who lives down the street from my dad. He related some interesting stories and one was about their 747s at JFK during 1970/71. Quite often, he taxied passed their engineless 747s because of the JT-9D's performance problems. Anyway, he looked through his flight log to confirm that he later flew the aircraft that my models represented.

Props to Pan Am
