Default The week from Hell

Been one hell of a week for me.

Computer totally died, A dear friend got me a new one at Costco with a three year warranty.

On Saturday, our neighbour was having someone check his roof, that person dropped his ladder on our 1998 Toyota. $2,800 worth of damage. He admitted to the damage and was willing to pay for the repairs since we did not want to go through the Insurance. Got two quotes and now he is freaking out he cannot afford the quotes. Called Insurance and they said if we do not get it fixed within a month, they will cancel our policy. If we proceed with a Comprehensive claim (Fire, Damage and Theft) coverage, they will write off the car. Told this to the guy and he is not cooperating. Might have to initiate Small Claims Court case.

Hubby was told he has chronic neck problems on top of his Sciatica.

And how was your week, everyone???

You do realize that the roofer must have insurance and dropping a ladder causing damage is definitely part of his coverage. What kind of insurance company do you have? No insurance company has the right to threaten a policy holder to "repair or have policy cancelled".
What kind of damage does your car have that they want to write off the car?

I have saved every single email response from this kid. First he claims he is self-employed and then says he is not and has no insurance. He must think I am a stupid ***. I am not going to let the little jerk get away with this and we are with Aviva. I highly recommend NOT to deal with that Insurance company.

My week has been awesome, as was last week and the week before that....actually even on an average day, my life and all that I have is great.
Feel so sorry for people that have lives that are constantly surrounded by dramas.

Just go through your insurance. Your premiums won't increase since you are not at fault and he admitted his fault. Will have to report to police as well since the damage is more than $2000.

Hope everything works out at the end.

It's called small claims court here and I strongly suggest you take this guy to it no matter how long it takes (1 - 2 years wait).
Coincidently, my wife rear ended another vehicle this week. Her car's front end, headlight, foam bumper guard have to be totally replaced, the side panel has to be straightened out and repainted as does the door to match. Estimate came out to $1800.
Who gave you an estimate of $2800 from a ladder?

I already threatened him with Small Claims court and his messages have ceased since I said that.

If worse comes to worse, I will get the stupid neighbour involved too

Quote was from two reputable body shops in Newmarket here but I told them that he was going to pay for the damages.

Sad to say but your neighbour is also to blame as he hired someone to look at his roof with no insurance so it now falls on his insurance to compensate.

..... As for the computer thing, don't buy one off the shelf. You end up with a lot of BS you either didn't want or will ever use. Find reputable local computer shop that can custom design and build a new one to your specifications. Just the hardware you want, just the software you need. A good builder can make you a machine that will fit you to a T and quite probably cost less than anything off the shelf. I've had my last three PCs custom built and two of them are still working just fine (I keep the XP machine to run those programs I really like the Win7+ won't run at all).
..... Best thing of all, if you have a problem it's local call to the builder. Not a long-distance, wait on hold for hours and end up talking to a guy named Bob who is probably in Mumbai. Then you can drive drive your machine to his shop for repair (that is, once you've got that damaged vehicle of your's repaired first).
..... I get the same, if not better, warranty as the name brands.
..... You're getting plenty of advise on the car. I'm sure there's enough lawyers North of the border more than willing to take someone to court for you.

I understand you live in Canada, but I think the law is similar to here in the USA. You could go through your insurance carrier who only has to pay you the lesser of the damage or the market value of your car. If you take the home owner and/or contractor to court, your recovery will be limited to the lesser of the damage or the market value of your car. I suggest you go through your insurance carrier as a comprehensive loss and you will get paid what you are lawfully allowed to get without all the court hassle. The insurance company, if they feel it is financially in their interest, will sue the homeowner and contractor to recover what they paid you.

As to your neighbor, if they have comprehensive home insurance, the neighbor could give you the information on the insurance company and the policy number and you could file a claim through them. Again, your recovery would be limited to the lesser of the damage or the market value of the car.

To clarify- I went through a rough patch that ended 6 years ago, but it started 3 years prior. I had four operations, a big cancer scare when a tumor the size of a baseball was removed from my neck, nearly died from misdiagnosed appendicitis because gangrene set into my small intestine, and my mother died. After that, life doesn't seem so bad. Even if I'm getting older, I'm glad to be alive.

They say things happen in threes, so let's hope that's the end of it for you. Get all the bad stuff done and out of the way in one week!!

Not too bad of a week for me. An older root canal was retreated last year and the infection has returned. After numerous attempts at medicating the tooth and subsequent failures, the dentist has suggested I either 1) extract the tooth and do nothing; or 2) extract the tooth and have an implant installed. Ugh. lol.

Next week will be pretty exciting, though. Early last year, I was assaulted from behind while walking home from watching a football game. I was pushed to the ground by two males and they fled. The resulting fall broke out my seven upper teeth. My dentist was able to save one of the teeth and put a crown on it. The others are being replaced by two bridges affixed to four implant posts. I won't go into details about that procedure, but will say I'm finally getting the two bridges next Thursday. I plan to have a small celebration that night with friends. Taking off April 1. Not looking forward to paying for all of this, though.

Thanks! I just want it done. It's consumed 15 months of my life. I'm just thankful it wasn't worse than it was.
