I wouldn't say its a 100% rejection of socialism, more of a rejection of elitist politicians and political parties, the EU bureaucracy and multinational rent seeking corporate interests.
I wonder who'll be the next country to leave, I've read the EU is not popular in France if a referendum were heard there today it would be 65% leave, though a vote would never be allowed there. The next country to leave and it will be game over for the current EU.

Technically they don't have to do anything. The referendum isn't legally binding, so Parliament could if they wanted to reject the result and not leave. They won't, but they could if they wanted to. Also they haven't triggered Article 50 yet, which won't happen for 3 months whilst we find a successor to Cameron. All in all it's a mess and a clear plan to leave won't be sorted out for a while. The EU is lumbered with us for the moment.

Bit of a read on the Daily today concerning a European superstate which I found a bit disturbing and what is more disturbing than that was the fact that people would even consider being under authoritarian rule by those who were never elected by the citizenry in the first place .

You can read all sorts of stuff about the EU from all sides, but there were some huge benefits to being in and a lot of people saw that. I think they'll be quite a few areas surprised at how much they got out of the EU, Cornwall's already waking up to that fact and they voted leave! They've asked the government to guarantee the £404m they would've got from the EU to 2020. How on earth they expect them to do that I've no idea.

I think the UK under-estimated the EU response. This time around no nice little exceptions and cherry picking agreements. The UK wants out, fine out you go but no backroom deals and no discussions until the UK makes it formal.

No it can't, she's a constitutional monarch, she has no Parliamentary/decision making power. If you wanted to get it down to the bare bones the Monarch is a largely ceremonial role, though she does open and close parliament at the Prime Ministers request. She meets with the Prime Minister once a week to discuss the latest policies and happenings and whilst no one really knows what happens in those sessions, I would think that she does offer advise, but doesn't cross the boundary to offer personal opinion.

Just a thought but perhaps the EU could open the door for the remain crowd to immigrate to the EU country of their choice and give them the same benefits as the migrants while they adjust to their new country ,it would be a win win all the way around when one thinks about it.
