On the car side it's less tragic...

Mini belongs to BMW and its HQ is in München.
MG and Rover died after being sold X times.
Jaguar belongs to an Indian firm.
Rolls-Royce is German owned.

Other brands play no role on the Continent or are international owned (Vauxhall > Opel > GM, Ford > Ford).

The best outcome from the Brexit vote is not for the Brits or for the French meat farmers - its for the Swedish, Czechs and French who get to use Swexits, Czexits, Frexits in their campaigns!

There have been a few variations on the net. Czech-out, Swedone etc... and found a couple relative to this forum - Departugal, Sweparture

There's a certain irony in that my friend, who is half Greek and half Irish, is on a holiday with his family in the UK.

Should I tell him to drop off some Schweppes for you, Horia? You know, before it gets too expensive...

No thanks, this will do. My neighbour just told me he actually works for Schweppes in France and that they got french-owened franchise factories here

Thank you to the Moderator who banned willyburger, the chap has serious issues and clearly the people with white coats were not paying close enough attention to his 'computer time activities'

Democracy at work, good on the voters - they have made their bed and no doubt being Brits will now go about making it all work as they traditionally do.

The only upside I've seen so far is a weaker £ so time to look on eBay UK for some diecast

Not entirely. Mini is a 100% BMW brand, Rolls-Royce is a little bit different because other companies hold shares of it.

Someone better inform BMW Group website.

I wouldn't say its a 100% rejection of socialism, more of a rejection of elitist politicians and political parties, the EU bureaucracy and multinational rent seeking corporate interests.
I wonder who'll be the next country to leave, I've read the EU is not popular in France if a referendum were heard there today it would be 65% leave, though a vote would never be allowed there. The next country to leave and it will be game over for the current EU.

Technically they don't have to do anything. The referendum isn't legally binding, so Parliament could if they wanted to reject the result and not leave. They won't, but they could if they wanted to. Also they haven't triggered Article 50 yet, which won't happen for 3 months whilst we find a successor to Cameron. All in all it's a mess and a clear plan to leave won't be sorted out for a while. The EU is lumbered with us for the moment.

Bit of a read on the Daily today concerning a European superstate which I found a bit disturbing and what is more disturbing than that was the fact that people would even consider being under authoritarian rule by those who were never elected by the citizenry in the first place .

You can read all sorts of stuff about the EU from all sides, but there were some huge benefits to being in and a lot of people saw that. I think they'll be quite a few areas surprised at how much they got out of the EU, Cornwall's already waking up to that fact and they voted leave! They've asked the government to guarantee the £404m they would've got from the EU to 2020. How on earth they expect them to do that I've no idea.

The words and conduct of the President of the European Parliament shown on BBC this morning, gave an excellent impression of a petulant child. Very unbecoming of a supposedly educated man. Not that the behaviour of UKIP MEP Nigel Farage was much better. Oh, the bitterness of it all.

I think the UK under-estimated the EU response. This time around no nice little exceptions and cherry picking agreements. The UK wants out, fine out you go but no backroom deals and no discussions until the UK makes it formal.

Yeah and what is up with the fools wearing the wigs in parliament? Also Johnson looks like Trump. The butter teeth politicians should have put together an implementation plan just in case the vote to leave came true as it did, but the arrogant politicians thought it would never happen. Hope it all works for the UK.

For those that supported remain you will probably still have a chance to be a part of the EU by joining the EU military once it's up and running.

The Brexit is now taking on such a level of cringe worthy proportions, it is embarrassing to watch. We got 2 politicians, one calling the Brexit and another positioning himself as the main proponent, both thinking it would never happen but would push their political carts uphill. As it turns out Brexit is real, both have distanced themselves from the process, with the remainder of the politicians rather lukewarm supporting it and most of the people that will become the working population against it or going holy **** what did we just do. I have a feeling that invoking article 50 could be years away given the current political handwringing.

No it can't, she's a constitutional monarch, she has no Parliamentary/decision making power. If you wanted to get it down to the bare bones the Monarch is a largely ceremonial role, though she does open and close parliament at the Prime Ministers request. She meets with the Prime Minister once a week to discuss the latest policies and happenings and whilst no one really knows what happens in those sessions, I would think that she does offer advise, but doesn't cross the boundary to offer personal opinion.

I wonder if the monarchy will regress and start inbreeding again!

Maybe, maybe not...was meant to be an extreme reference to going backwards, but in a joking manner.

Just a thought but perhaps the EU could open the door for the remain crowd to immigrate to the EU country of their choice and give them the same benefits as the migrants while they adjust to their new country ,it would be a win win all the way around when one thinks about it.

Quality post man

Only prob' with that (what you've said) is ~ unlike the Poles, the 'Bremain' crowd have two issues...

The (mostly) "YOUNG" Bremains still rely on 'Mummy & Daddy' handouts....

(whilst they whinge, ***** & whine 'Xenophobe' at ANYONE who dares have a difference of opinion )

Laughably those youthful mugs DON'T appear to understand the word 'D.E.M.O.C.R.A.C.Y'

Plus they're too 'broke-***' (or lazy) to own their own property ~ (stick to being a 'student' eh ? )

Whilst those (few) 'over 35's who wanted 'Bremain' are TOO effing dim to rent their own property out...
(& go live in the former 'Iron Curtain' with the remaining few that DIDN'T cross the 21.5 mile 'English Channel' & settle here)

I am (of course), 'generalising' with a bit of added 'dry' British tongue-in-cheek !

Still, I laughed at & enjoyed what ya wrote Patroni ~ it made for a good chuckle...

Also had to laugh at 'J.P.C's picture post, below..... (Re ; "INFIDELS")

Thanks Hornchurch, I would have found it amusing that while the POTUS was in Britain giving a speech that someone would have yelled out "So says the man who returned the bust of Churchill ".
