Well we made t to Canada! We had a few days in Hong Kong which was nice to break up the journey but encountered issues when the missus had no seat for her Toronto to Kingston flight as they overbooked. Air Canada was really helpful and although far from ideal, we stayed the night in Toronto and have been given a hotel, meals, transit and financial reimbursement for not getting on the flight. We now have to train it to Kingston at lunch. We checked out Tim Horton's and the donuts are impressive! My missus is a bit of a coffee afficianado so it's a no go for coffee but I dare say there'll be a few Nutella donut purchases over the next three years! The one thing that has struck us is how friendly and helpful everyone has been so far. From immigration giving my partner an open work permit and waved all the fees, to Air Canada helping us out, everyone has been a pleasure to deal with.

He's going to miss heat shimmer and being barefoot in public, burning his feet on the car park bitumen.

Haha cheers! Am going to miss living in Cott but we are on a lake over here which is quite nice. It's only three years so see how it goes. I guess the biggest shock will be coming home for Christmas! Coming from snow straight to 40 degree weather will be interesting.

That rush of hot air that hits you like a train when you step through the airport door.

Wait for the next heat wave and you will realize what Summer really is here, and you'll feel at home.

Winter will be different for sure

Well after three weeks of living in a hotel room in Kingston, we're about to move into our house! And we finally picked up our car and the missus loves it. I have to admit though, I underestimated how difficult moving overseas would be. It'll be nice to finally kick back and have a beer or eight while on the couch watching Netflix!

If anyone has any suggestions for things to do, I'm all ears. We checked out Montreal last week and loved it. We plan on definitely heading back there and often.

On that note as well, do most Canadian buyers for 1/400 and 1/72 buy from the US? Or are there decent stores here in Canada?

There are two Aviation Stores near Pearson, Threshold and AV World. Both carry great selections of Model planes and other Pilot and Aviation goodies.

What car did you end up getting by the way?

We ended up getting a Lincoln MKC for the missus and then I'll get a toy car (or F-150 haha). We had some interesting experiences with some of the manufacturers. Once I work out how to and have some time I'll throw up a picture.

I'll check them out, cheers.

Go check out the Canadian Perth in Eastern Ontario (corner of Trans-Canada Hwy and Ontario Hwy 43).

Ask them about the bacteria in Elizabeth Quays water park.

Good choice on both accounts. MKC is one of the best bang for the bucks and Lincoln service is very good (I have an MKX).

PLenty of things to do around Kingston. Montreal is one, should go in the Laurencians (spend a day in Tremblant), Ottawa of course (I can show you around there week days) and many others places that you will discover with time.

But can you do this in any Lincoln crossover?

Several musts while you are over here is to visit The Canadian Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa, Vintage Wings in Gatineau [across the river from Ottawa] and Canadian Warplane Heritage in Hamilton. Last 2 are best on 'flying' days of the collection.

A word of advice/advance notice as a Queen's Engineer. Frosh week is insane and sleepy Kingston takes a radical change with the influx of new/returning students and stellar to observe [from a distance] events such as the Grease Pole. RMC spools up a week earlier as I recall.

Also, Long weekend in September, the CNE Airshow takes place in Toronto. While pale in comparison to earlier years shows with Concorde, SR-71, U-2 ...it still is a pleasant day on the Lakeshore.
