FS2004...tons of free addons available for it, moreso than any other flight sim, and still looks the business with some added payware items for weather & terrain.

"FS2004...tons of free addons available for it..." My preference also - Just Flight's C-130 Hercules is about all I'll ever need. Outta here, Doug

For X-Plane 10 I like 'rivieres' add-ons and the FlyJSim payware ones.

You can read my review on them here.

That is an advantage of FSX.

Got to agree, FS2004 is the best, I use mostly payware but freeware clouds or maybe a ENB effect or shader makes the sim look way better than some others! great for my computer because it runs MUCH better than FSX.never going back!

FS2004 is miles better than FSX. You can very easily turn FS2004 into a higher spec version than FSX with freeware alone!!

Most of my flying on the computer is done between FSX, War Thunder, IL-2, KSP and orbiter.

Though most FS2004 and even 2002 add-ons should work fine in FSX (though some have issues here and there), and since Prepar3D is just FSX with some optimization by LockMart, I think those add-ons should work there too considering the file structure stays the same. I have been able to fly that Yak-18T that's out there without issues in FSX (once all the patches are applied), just like I did in my 2004 days (and that is a really good GA aircraft to look into, a lot of people get irritated with it as it's one of those aircraft that is sensitive to a number of things. Can't tell you how many times I've had engine failures at first when I started with it!)

I have DCS Ka-50, but haven't been able to dig too far into that one. Just not enough time to dig into that learning curve in the sim levels I'd prefer to fly in.

I mentioned my success with FS9 flying Just Flight's add-on C-130 Hercules. I recently came across and bought Just Flight's L-1011 Tristar, which is FSX compatible only, so I also bought a new copy of FSX to go with it. My computer is an HP p6310y which is five years old and dated, (CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 630, 2.8 GHz), but I have tuned it up a bit with the addition of a NVIDEA GeForce GT240 video card, 8 Gigs of memory and a WD Caviar Black 7200 rpm 3 Tb hard drive, so I may have enough oomph to drive FXS - I'll report back. Keep 'em flying, Doug

FSX and Just Flight's L-1011 flying fabulously. Two great concepts down the drain: Microsoft flight simulator and Lockheed commercial airliners. There is a difference, FSX is alive and well, thanks to third party add-ons, but Lockheed commercial airliners is cold and dead. Later, Doug

FSX, with various add ons from UK2000 and Aerosoft, the Aerosoft A320 is especially brilliant. Just purchased a new PC with a 3.4 I7 core, runs really well. I'd also recommend WOAI traffic over payware AI, it's so much better, up to date, easier in FPS and of course FREE!

Well, I guess... Your system could handle anything, and I imagine those eight fans and water-cooling for the CPU control the heat, and that sucker must generate some. Keep 'em flying, Doug

FSX, which I enjoy very much. As has been said, plenty of good freebie stuff around, and it's been possible for me to build up a nice little Egyptair fleet. An Egyptair 777-300, and PIA 777-2Q8ER being my favourites. The -300 sound is simply awesome. All I've got is a fairly basic PC, monitor, and joystick, and that's it, not anything like some of the gear that some here have got, still, its enough for me to enjoy

Neil.

First post in a while, yet again. *dusts off the keyboard* Feels like I take year-long breaks at a time, eh?

I just fiddle with Prepar3D every now and then...used to take FSX quite seriously, even ran a website, but nowadays I don't have the time nor energy to set it back up. Here's my rig, clearly nothing compared that beast up there!

Zalman Z9 Plus case
Gigabyte Z87X-D3H
i5-4670K clocked at 4.2
Gigabyte 7970 ghz edition
Corsair 8gb (I don't even recall what exactly it was)
Cooler Master i600 psu
Kingston 240 gb SSD
3x 500 gb WD/Seagate drives
3tb Toshiba media storage
Logitech Z506 speakers
Logitech Turdy Wireless Mouse
Logitech g710+ keyboard
Logitech Extreme 3d Pro Joystick
Logitech G430 Headset

Love me some Logitech peripherals.

Holy cow nice pc setup, looks heavy duty. I can't wait to buy fsx and the 767 bundle. Just bought me last night a new dell desktop and eager to start flying.
