Is the CRJ a nice plane to fly?
I'm currently a graphic designer at a local design agency. Though I'm planning on auditioning for Berklee School of Music in Boston for a Songwriting major. A professional songwriter is where my dreams really are.

I was in the same boat at my retirement from the military (Air Force), so I chose a mechanical career after serving as a telecom and crypto specialist for over 20 years. Unless you really like what you've been doing in the military, choose the exact opposite to break away from routine. I will never want to go back to working in an office again.

Don't know how good you are with mechanical stuff, but you can always become a airline mechanic. Or you can church it up and call yourself a Aviation Maintenance Technician. That way your hands on the plane. You'll know the ins and outs of the plane. It can be a very interesting job also. I travel anywhere my companies flies to, to fix the planes if needed. You can get taxi qualified and taxi them. You can get engine run qualified to do engine runs. Nothing like running a 777 right at takeoff power. The pays good along with decent benefits. Or you can get into the avionics side of aviation. The dept I work in we pretty much do all of it except composites. Might be worth looking into if you want to be around planes and an airport. The shift work sucks - especially the rotating shifts as you usually have at least one quick turn if not two per week and working holidays...but the pros far outweigh the cons. IMO, it's the best job in the federal government.
Been there, done that brother. I am slowly regaining years on my life-span that were zapped away by the quick turnarounds and mid-shifts. But as you say, there are some sweet bennies.

Straight from school into the military then 23 years working for the UK's largest Air Traffic Control provider. My current job is in Verification and Validation of flight data software.

In all honesty, the quick turns and mids don't bother me so much. The one thing I hate about the job, more than anything else, is that I'm in Memphis. This place is a hell hole. Germantown is nice but it's a little bubble surrounded by crap. I've been thinking about buying a house but it just depresses me to accept reality that I will be here for several years until I can get out. I won't drive to get dinner at work if the sun is already down. The vending machines have made a small fortune off me since I forget to bring food quite often.
It makes me think I should have made a "strategic washout" and get sent to some tower that has to be in a nicer place than Memphis. It is the south's Detroit. I think 98% of us would gladly cover all moving expenses out of pocket if we could become Nashville Center. I remember jumping on FedEx last year and we were talking about staffing. I said how Memphis was a hard facility to staff. The captain asked why and I said because everyone hates it here. He then said, "Yeah, that was a stupid question."

Aviation! Currently a Load Controller, sitting at a computer screen balancing the cg of aircraft. From the twin otters to the 787! Always loved aviation so its a fitting job.
S'me too. I have had a long low paid career in Flight Ops...
We have a CLC department. I still do a lot of loadsheets.
I have heard that gynaecology is not all it is cracked up to be. Then again, nothing beats looking up old female friends.

I work for United Utilities who provide water and wastewater services across the North West of England...
My current job title is Wastewater Technical Officer... basically I have 5 wastewater treatment plants that i monitor performance of and look to optimise, troubleshoot etc....
Commercial Manager for the Australian division of a global Aerospace Company.
Also degree qualified for the preparation, delivery and assessment of professional training and development programs.

The only aircraft of the CRJ series that I have flown is the CRJ 900. It is a nice airplane to fly. It has more than enough power and is the most reliable plane I have flown. My only complaint is its not much fun to hand fly, but I think I was spoiled flying the Avro RJ 85. That was wonderful to hand fly.
As for me I've been flying for a regional/charter airline for the past 7 years. Before that I was a flight instructor for two years. Looking back (I'm 32 now), I'd probably have chosen my other passion (archaeology) as a career...I love aeroplanes and they are my main passion in life, but flying as a career just isn't anywhere near as good a lifestyle as people think it is. Yes there are GREAT jobs out there with fantastic airlines, but having said that the majority of jobs entail the crew being significantly underpaid in comparison to equally qualified people in other fields, the time away from home and unpredictability is a killer, and its really very trying having to work with so many 'type-A' personalities...Yes, I've had some amazing experiences ,like ferrying a B1900 across the Indian Ocean from Singapore to Johannesburg, and staying in some of the top hotels in the world etc, but believe me, the way I look at it now, It pays the bills and that's about it.
I don't have a job, because I'm twelve. But my Dad is a Senior First Officer for British Airways, and flys Boeing 777's. When he picks up new aircraft, I get free models! Boeing and Airbus give free models away to pilots who pick up the aircraft. Thats where I got my Airbus Beluga and A320NEO.

We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds.
I started out mopping the floor. But now... now I'm washing lettuce. Soon I'll be on fries; then the grill. In a year or two, I'll make assistant manager, and that's when the big bucks start rolling in.
