Default Commercial Liveries

Below is an article depicting some evolution of liveries over the years of a few prominent U.S. carriers. Some very nice photos.

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2...very.html?_r=0

It is an old article so I am sorry if it is "old news" you people. I do see the current American scheme is not mentioned as it did not exist at time of article.

Hate seeing Continental in the "defunct airlines" category. Thanks for sharing

Yea, and the merger livery for the new United isn't that great either. I like Continental's and I liked United's but a blending of the two isn't all that attractive (except for the special livery on the 787).

I don't travel much and I had forgotten that Northwestern merged with Delta. The "Bowling Shoe" livery is an all time favorite for me, along with Delta "Widget," United "Business Suit." Oh well.

Don't you just wish that the livery wheel will turn full circle & airlines start going back to using that amazingly beautiful thing called a cheat line? Something about those older colour schemes that really appeal to most, if not all airliner buffs.

That's a great article, especially coming from the New York Times. I just flew on AA's maddogs and arriving in DFW, I saw the new scheme. Still don't like it. The tail flag is too "in your face;" something I can't get use to. I snapped a few pics while the old scheme still dominates. Thanks for posting the article planemark.
