Default where are some of the DAC regulars???

As one of the longest and oldest DACer out there, Ive seen hundreds come and go..Not being one to talk, Ive cut back about 75% of posting as Im just not into it as much anymore...Im not alone...Some old time DACers are missing in action..Bill-ay?? B-16707?? Randy SF?? (maverick 231 just resurfaced after a 6 month hiatus) , these guys used to be regulars...I guess they have lives...I guess they are silent lurkers...Can u think of anyone else missing for the last six months or more who was a regular??? Not counting any posts selling stuff withstanding...

The other forum seems to have more old-timers than DAC.

I'm (Randy_SF) here, just under a different name.

I'm still working part time, so don't have the money to buy model airplanes and cars like I once did.

Well Billy seems to have taken an acute dislike for this site. He has no interest for the subject matter here, hence its better he stays away.

I don't want to "not like model planes anymore", but I would like to slow down a bit. Do you have a secret, maybe a 10 step program kinda like heroin addicts or something? Please help me.

After being laid off I not only had to stop buying but much of the collection had to be sold. Instead of that being 100% bad, it's actually encouraged me to enjoy what I have so much more. A display case full of models doesn't thrill me, but having a few models that I think are exceptional sitting out around the house (never again behind glass) has been a really positive thing. I'm a lot happier in my hobby. Who woulda thought.

You don't have to just cut off completely and not like them anymore. I love mine and I only get a few a year. The key is to not grab every one you see, but to collect a certain airline, or type of plane, don't go crazy.

A lot of the old timers are still here, just not posting anymore, and only occasionally lurking. I'm beginning to feel that way, as many posts are just crap or arguments, and the interesting people don't post much. Up til two years ago this was a pretty lively site. My interest in 1/400 has waned to nil, I can't buy as much anyway, and the "I scored 14 new models for my collection today!" threads just make me want to hurl.

That's one thing I don't like seeing, all the arguments and stuff for what people say. I still occasionally post my new model, and I will keep up to date on when I start flight training. A lot of the older members here have given me some good advice. I still read around, probably don't log on every day, and if I do it is to post FSX shots.

Yes.

I recommend a healthy dose of self-discipline. The ability to control your focus is extremely liberating, as it puts you back in charge. Well, it works for me very well, that I know.

I just noticed Vikings770 resurfaced after a 3 year absence, and he appears to be selling some of his collection.

He's been selling models from his collection for years. I bought some 4-5 years ago.

Well put! I'm just kidding, trying to post a funny response to the person who does'nt like models anymore. I only collect what I like, whatever catches my eye at the time. As I only collect 747-300's and -400's in 1/400 scale, there is'nt much out there left to collect. I pick up a model or three per month. It's kinda like x-mas everytime the mailman comes strolling up my walkway! Happy collecting!

I concur, and many posters are just plain rude and disrespectful to others.

I agree, especially when the photos they're posting are grainy.

The forum just isn't what it once was when I joined in 2005, which is another reason why I don't post much here.

I've purchased a few 1:400's in the past few months, but they simply aren't as exciting to me to collect as 1:200. And I do not have the room to store or money to buy 1:200 any longer.

My collecting hobby has deteriorated over the last few months. I've moved on, but I do lurk from time to time, I still love looking at my models, behind the glasses in the cabinets. We may not be buying anymore, but the passion will still be around, more or less!

I've pretty much dwindled down on my arrivals threads as well as I have just about everything I want and nothing that exciting is being released. It was also starting to look like a competition as to who can get a particular model first, hence I'm now collecting at my own pace and posting threads only if I have something that's worth showing and sharing.

I am still about every so often, but I doubt I'm worth any real mention. At one point I was addicted to all of this, but now, I look and wonder what on earth I was on at the time!

It also doesn't help when I log in, I have model requests from about 3 months ago, and half of them seem to be for things I had forgotten I even had! I happen to be the worst salesman in history anyway

I certainly don't include myself with a lot of the "Kingpins" here on DA.C, but I kinda grew out of the hobby. Life changes, and all those planes take up a lot of space. Also, it seemed like there wasn't anything interesting coming out, I mean Phoenix is great, they do some amazing things, but it's all so expensive, and a moving car is more fun than static airplanes.

This forum has changed drastically in the past few years. We went through the 'Wild West' of collecting to a bunch of immature kids joining and posting their jibberish. Now this forum has many angry and bitter people just on the lookout to attack others in their sights. I've been a member here since 2003 and I've never seen it go so bad before.

As for Bill-ay, last i heard from him was last fall when i sent him some decals and corroguard for a custom 767-200 he was going to do for me. Since then, he won't respond to email or PM's so i'm out $20. He's a great model builder but he definitely acts his age..

He was going to make a custom model for you for $20? Maybe he realized this himself.

GET KNOTTED, JERK!!

Seriously though, I have not been here much so I can't really comment on the over all health of this site other than it does seem quiter these days.

What I will say which has been said already is that I grew out of this hobby and my models are now taking up way too much space. The last model I bought was over a year ago now and it was a 1:200 Czech Tupolev 154 (I think)

$20 for a build like that? Ha, too funny. No, that was how much i paid for decals and corogard. Kid should at least mail them back and or reply to a PM.

Instead of fretting over why some of the older members aren't around anymore, why not start to embrace (not physically) the newer members of this forum site & make them feel a bit more welcome. If you ignore the new members, they will go away. As the song goes, nothing stays the same forever.

Much better. Wait. Gotta go take a leak. Be right back....

It was more fun with the flame wars...some funny stuff

I don't buy as many models as I used to anyway...the damn HMO's are killing me with premiums and copays, especially now that I am on oxygen several times a day.

First rate advice! We could do a lot more of this, remembering that sometimes the posts that are presented poorly may actually be from a person struggling with English as a second language.
