Question Visitor Messages

Do you find them useful? Some of us have been under constant attack from spammers who register and avoid our spam prevention filters by posting visitor messages.

My question to the DAC community is... would you miss them if they are gone?

I echo roberjon5's sentiment exactly. They seem redundant and can potentially cause problems which would waste Admin time. I say nix 'em now.

I voted "What are visitor messages" as I've never seen one on this site. I have sympathy for those who want them gone though. I had plenty of clients who run web sites who have been driven crazy by blog spam.

If you click on your screen name beside any of your posts, and 'View Public Profile', you will see they are turned on by default.

You can turn them off in the User CP (Edit Options --> Messaging & Notification) but I don't think anyone, other than myself, has thought of doing that.

It is a redundant feature. I agree with RJ5, PM suffices.

I didn't know visitors could leave messages. But now that I do, I say don't have this feature.

Er, I like the visitor message feature. It's much easier that using PMs in my opinion.

Why not just leave it the way it has been? I got bombed recently with over 4 mil VMs and just disabled the feature, but others might like to have that experience.

@gospodin

the problem is with human spammers.... they are also using visitor messages to spread spam and for now our software is having a hard time moderating and deleting such junk.

Sounds like the solution is obvious, then. Delete the function, the members here will live without it and you won't find yourselves swamped with trash. I have only used the VM once in the 6 years I've been a member.

Meh, if it doesn't go to the VMs, it'll just go to the forums. Unless we set posting limits (er, "You cannot access this section of the forum unless you have 10 posts or whatever").
