How to make custom decals??
My question doesn't involve building custom models, rather, printing custom decals to put on current models. I know there a few collectors here that are able to print their own decals and do some incredible custom work. I'm not particularly good at building models or working with small parts, decals, etc. However, I've found something that I want to do and it will involve somehow printing some tiny decals and applying them to six separate models.
Heres the situation - With the help of Nick at Jetway I've been able to complete my USAF F-16 Thunderbirds ground display (six models - Gemini Aces 1:72 F16 Thunderbirds - #GAusa5001). I want to make the display a bit more realistic by changing the formation numbers on each plane as well as the name of the pilots printed just bellow the cockpit glass. The model released by GA is, of course, the #1 Commander. I plan to use the names of the six formation pilots who flew in the 2010 season. That said, these decals are TINY. I'm not quite sure how to get into this...
I know there are special printers, software, types of paper, sealants, etc. Any suggestions on where to start?? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Aside from the recent GJ200 C-17 release, the F16s are my first military models. I typically collect airliners, however, the Thunderbirds have always been special to me as I've seen them perform for many years. I truly think this will be a little project I'll enjoy.
Edit - I can provide a few pictures if needed sometime tomorrow when I get my macro lens back from my neighbor.
