Default Brad Shinn PanAm 747-SP

Hi,

Here's the very begining of a 1/200 Platz B747SP-21. She will be "Clipper Mayflower" (N530PA) the very first SP built. She later flew for United.

Thanks,
Brad

Hey Brad ... I'll be watching this build with a close eye as I am interested in a custom SP in the future ... I've contacted Platz directly thru their Japanese website and am expecting some kind of reply soon.

Overall the proportions look very good, but when you get a chance during your next photo shoot, if you could take a closeup or two of the nose profile and contours, that would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers and happy modeling!

You have been a busy man Brad.
Would be great to see this bird, I love 747 SP . Although the width of the vertical stab of this kit seems a bit less than SP or is it how it shows in the photo?

HI.
Sure I can help your SP quest out in the future. I've been tweaking the nose profile (cockpit area) just a tad. Will test overall profile with spare windscreen decal.

Hi Ben,
Yea should be very cool when all done. I'm still trying to burn a image of the overall shape in my mind. I've got over a 100 photos on her as of now. The Platz kit set the standard for all others to copy. The flaps are gonna be the hardest to pull off.

Hi Ramon,
Still waiting on Ray's reply. The Kit did come with a very sweet looking sheet from Flying Colors. It has all the clipper names and some detail parts as well. I sorta like this sheet's hue of the blue....spot on too.

Thanks Ramon ... that's a pretty hefty price for a plastic kit ... hopefully the ailerons can be activated by remote control, and the landing gears retract!

Looks awesome. I rather not have the flight 50 logo. I think that was only used on a billboard livery.

I think I know Brad's answer... yes!! And I would have to agree, especially with dropped flaps. Gotta do the weathering too! But it's not my model, so you guys can hash it out.

Brad likes 'em dirty though.

Challange...OMG....look at the flap system on this SP. The first time on this flap configuration layout. Not like a standard 747 at all

Chris I'm sooooo glad you like the 737-900!!!

Hello Brad, model is looking great! I was curious to ask, does the Platz model come with a complete set of landing gears and wings or does it require a Hasegawa 747 model kit for the parts? I was curious. I do have an unassembled Sasquatch 1/200 747SP kit with extended stabilizers and hope to make that into United colors. I noticed the interesting look of the gray painted areas. Anyway, great work on that 747SP.

Nice attention to detail with aft fuselage "crease"~ most kits/ready made models overlook that distinctive trait of the SP..

Thanks stang21181.....It's a resin kit. You might find it a little different than plastic. The Platz kit is a great rep for the 747SP.

Ramon ... you are going to end up with a fantastic looking machine ... I just missed winning the other auction last week on the other Platz SP kit on eBay, otherwise I'd be looking forward to a Saul Bass UAL scheme on mine.

But for now, at least we can enjoy the lovely development of yours' in full Pan American glory ... brilliant work on the wing flap detail Brad ... that looked like a lot of work sans flap track fairings ... looking forward to seeing the wings and engines installed onto the fuselage!

But for now, at least we can enjoy the lovely development of yours' in full Pan American glory ... brilliant work on the wing flap detail Brad ... that looked like a lot of work sans flap track fairings ... looking forward to seeing the wings and engines installed onto the fuselage!
Me too......Should look cool,
Thanks

Waiting for the April edition of Modeler's Scale, Brad.

I got a question, Brad have you done 'landing' mode of the plane? With speed reduction flaps and reverse thrusters fully out?

nice work brad! Just one question. to make the flaps do you use another piece of plastic or do you just cut off the attached flap piece from the wing? Oh and what do you use to hold the flaps? Sorry, im a newbie.

Hi and thanks!! Yes, you have to remove the top and bottom of what ever part is showing of the main flaps.

I make my own flaps/slats from styrene. Most likely the bottom half of the old flap would be traced to make the new one. I try to re-create the flap guides the best I can to attach the main flaps. With practice I'm sure you too can make some cool flaps . Just make sure you have loads of pics of the wing and flaps that you are gonna work on.

Been a long week with my bad back. Very hard to focus on anything lately...My back has never been well since the operation in December.....real bummer

I just finished the kruger flaps (leading edge flaps) and I'm putting them on the wings. They look cool ...each 2 outer slats are made from 3 parts of styrene to create that curved look. The inner 2 slats or krugers are not as curved. I Still need to add vortex strikes on leading edges of wings....and engines.

Sorry for the snail speed here Ramon

Me too Brad ... hope you continue to mend and you feel better soon ... I'm sure it must be frustrating but hang in there!

And the model looks FANTASTIC ... I can imagine one in Saul Bass colors coming up ... I could shoot myself for not winning that auction recently ...
