Is that a kit or a Herpa Premium?

Very nice job.

I don't think Herpa Premium made MD-11s. Did they?

The fact that it says "1/200 Hasegawa" in the title would lead me to conclude that this is a 1/200 Hasegawa kit, and not a Herpa.

Herpa Premium never had a a MD-11 mould, and a clear indication that this was a kit was the sealed windows in the front. I'm talking about the build quality, not that it's really HerpaPremium...

That may be a "mediocre" photo, but it surely isn't mediocre model-building ... looks to be a FANTASTIC job Bill-ay!!!

I don't know how you did the cockpit windows so cleanly (particularly the window frames!), but everything looks so crisp and straight - particularly the painting of the corro-guard and the leading edge aluminum on the wings ... it looks superb!!!

Great bird! Just flew on PH-KCI 6 weeks ago on the UIO-BON-AMS route... I Hope that KLM keeps their 10 MD-11 for some time as they are the last operator of the type after the Finnair phase-out.

Apropos Finnair, I also enjoyed your Santa MD-11 you did!

It wasn't the cheapest way to fly transatlantic, but the chance to fly on the MD-11 prevailed. In addition, i was able to fly on Southamerican classics like the 737-200, what more can you ask for...

Brilliant job Bill-ay! Great job in aging the airplane as well ... in fact, you did a great job in painting it too because it has "orange peel" just like the real airplanes do ...

Just teasin' ya ... you definitely have the skills to become a master modeller ... keep up the great work!

Congrats Bill Ay. Stunning job. The mdel / kit is perfect and it is hard to say if this is a die-cast or a kit.

Great job. Is this spray painted or did you use an airbrush? If you're doing this great a job at 15, I can only imagine how good you'll be in 10 years.

Agreed ... like I mentioned earlier, you definitely have the skills for this type of work ... the only issues I see in the coming few years is when you start dating ... put a stop to my model-building aspirations for awhile ... but keep it up!

Hey, do you have any pics of those Hasegawa kits you got in ZRH with the swissair decals?

The only kits which had the SR decals inside were the AZ DC-10 and the AF 747-200, neither of which I got at the time. This was back in 1986 when I got the JAL 743, BA Tristar, Thai A300, Aloha 737, SIA 742 and ANA 741.

You wont find them Mr. David. They were released for the Swiss market only. I think that they did that with Germany also, put LH decals in the kits. Moin?

Ah, much like how many early A300 kits that are marked LH or AF, were released in the US with Eastern decals.

I have to admit, its going to be hard to part with this one; after awhile you start to bond with the models you make. Sad (also sad that I said I bond with a piece of plastic :P )

Bill-ay, I was curious about which MD-11 kit you have. Which Hasegawa MD-11 kit did you get? Was that kit originally with KLM decals or did it come with JAL, American, SwissAir or other? The MD-11 kit in American colors I have the plastic molding is in grey, different than the other kits. Also, what type of white paint did you use there? I noticed it's flat, did you use flat white paint? Again, great job on the kit!

Hey Bill-ay. The plastic mold of the American MD-11 is grey which was not easy to work with. The metal foil I used keeps wrinkling because the grey plastic fuselage is flexible and even with glue it doesn't stay in place. I was curious.

Hey Bill-ay. Not much right now, just been too busy. However, I'm planning to work on some models this upcoming weekend. I plan on spray painting a 777 into United colors but with decals of their 1970's 'U' scheme and see what it looks like. Also, I might attempt to convert two Hasegawa 767 kits into a 767-400. The one kit I'm looking forward to building is the Qantas 747-400 kit. I'll get some pictures on here soon. I recently have been working on a converted 757 kit using two Wooster model molds into a -300 series and put Eastern decals on them. So far, it looks good. Anyway, that's what I"m planning to work on the next couple of days.

I hope to do that 777 later today and see for the first time what United's old scheme would like. I remember seeing an article in 1991 when the plane was being developed that it had an artist's drawing of United's 'U' scheme. Recently, I bought a built 747-400 kit and changed it into the United 'U' scheme as well and still working on it but it looks great. I'll hope to complete that 777 today.

Bill-ay, are you working on any kits?

In regards to the United fleet, hopefully I can get pictures soon. The decals look great for the 777 and I'm anxious to attach them to the kit. I haven't taken photos of the 747-400 yet. I have to apply another coat of paint on the 777 tomorrow since I have to make a small correction and also sprayed a 727 and 737. I actually had some free time and was able to do the painting today and as I speak they're drying. If the weather is okay tomorrow I'll get a group shot of the United fleet. I'm also measuring the two 767s in windows to deterimine where to cut the two into one-400 series. Again, hopefuly I'll post pics tomorrow. Happy New Year holiday to all!
