Default 1:200 Eva Air Boeing 777-300ER B-16711.5 aka N502SY

anyone else bored with the freakin' plastic model industry? maybe im just jealous that gemini is innovating so much and leaving plastic behind with nothing to offer except cheaper prices. yea im a little mad ill be honest.

anyways with that said i think its time to start my little rebellion of getting out of the collecting realm and focusing on sole customs to satisfy my craze for the stuff i really want. first up.....hehe....its .5 didja notice =P

donor: Hogan Air Canada
decals: my own custom made
paints used: tamiya acrylics and lacquers, alcladII chrome/aluminum

just like the real thing (matt cawby):

was a fitting day to take some pics...kinda dreary and rainy like seattle/everett

im loving the decals! those who have them do you like them too?

closeup of the engines and their decals. i did not offer the noise reducing decals and other inside-engine details on my decal sheets.

hmm door is a bit bubbly. didnt notice that until i took this shot...will have to pop them bubbles and smoothen it out!

yea yea i know the real plane doesnt have any details on its engines...oh well, this is my game not anyone else's!!! i do what i want.

fleet building eva 773ERs. I will have all the waves registrations soon (only 3 of them, b-16701, 702, and 703) and will work on the normal liveries as time passes.

That bare metal 77W is beautiful.

Kai, if what I read is correct, do I get the feeling that you're giving in to metal and veering off plastic?? Please let that not be the case!!

ill never ever give into metal. not until they drop prices from $150 a 747 to $30 a 747. metal is the reason i am slowly getting out of the pool of collecting because plastic just isnt innovating enough. which is also why im not here at DAC often anymore because ive moved more to doing my own customs to satisfy my wants...whats there really to talk about anymore anyways...GJs, JCs and IFs? nice lookin' models but forget that.

i do have a couple of GJs though but at the prices i got them for (practically free). they arent fair comparisons. and HELLO, if people havent noticed yet...msrp for geminis (a319s) started at $59...now its $64. sorry crownvic, dont mean to bash on your family, you are still my friend and i do appreciate all youve done for me but im just stating some facts and why i cant survive as a collector in this now.

people with less $$$ like me will never be able to afford diecast and if diecast takes over the industry with some sweet innovative stuff...i will be thrown out of the collecting ring automatically. koodles to GJ/JC though, theyve made it, it seems like

Kai you and I talk all the time...I would not let the popularity of diecast stop you from enjoying the hobby...You were into it years before the 200 diecasts gained in popularity..You have a talent that only a few others possess...Everyone here loves your work and your helpful threads...Just look at your fan base here

As for the cost going up, I dont want to get into economics but the Chinese have raised production costs almost twofold...Look to Vietnam as the next China, as they are about to price themselves out of the global production market. The price increases have not truly reflected what the real price increase should be...Anyway, forget politics, keep building those kits...I love to see and collect them especially yours!

Speaking of which, I am in on that 777 if you want to sell it!

Beautiful Kai, nice to have you back. If I may ask, how exactly did you make the green metallic paint? Custom mixing I assume?

base layer was tamiya TS-14 black, then layered on with AlcladII chrome, then custom mixed green paint was sprayed over the chrome in a thin coat so the chrome still shines through.

styrene sheets, utility knife, steady hands, 20/20 vision. just cut the antenna triangle shape out of the styrene, drill a rectangular hole into the fuselage, insert antenna into hole with a dab of superglue.

I hear about ALCLADII metalizers. There are probably the best in the world! And so are the results - the best!

I love it. I've been waiting for someone to do a pre-delivery/unpainted model. Looks really cool and great job matching the green coating on the front section of the aircraft.

Off topic but does anyone know why the green coating is only placed on certain areas? I would assume it is some sort of protection from the brunt of the wind/abrasion force on the bare metal before it is painted but not sure.
