Default TAP as she was

herewith a custom TAP in the old scheme - Using a Gemini donor it seemed to be an easy task, but the plastic tail fin rather objected to the changes so the task turned into a bit of an epic - but it is a surprisingly effective colour scheme and we are pleased how it turned out

Pardon my ignorance but what´s the difference between this very well done custom model and the one released by GJ? Only the registration?

No,the reg it´s the same, the diference is that the GJ it´s the delivery scheme and this one it´s the update done before they changed to the Air Portugal scheme,CS-TJB never got this update only CS-TJA.
Loock at the tail
Hope it helps

Hugo and CS-TBO...during the last few days this thread reminded me that, back in 2003 (I think!), a good friend of mine (who’s also a member here - retroguy) sent me as a gift a custom GJ with the identical scheme…meaning, with the same updated tail logo and markings. I had to look for it and actually found it stored away in my collection (340+ models…).

Not willing by all means to hijack this interesting thread, I was wondering if I could post here some pics of my own “unique” custom-made B747 TAP, next to my regular GJ TAP Jumbos…

Pics will be taken this evening (Canada Atlantic time) so, if no objection of course, I would upload them within the next couple of days. Feel free to PM/email me regarding this.

Cheers!

Jorge

Ok amigos…here are the pics!

hugo’s version is undoubtedly sharper and more detailed. I recall Retroguy saying at the time about the difficulty he had experimenting with the decals…he actually had to completely redo a few times over the cheat line, the tail logos and lettering…something that he was never satisfied with. Still, despite its imperfections, I’m glad to have it my collection…not only for its uniqueness but also for all the effort that Retroguy gave to this project. Curiously this was done just a few months before GJ’s version was out!

Enjoy…and thank you again for lending me some space in this thread!

Retroguy…if you see these…pls apologize the pics poor quality!...e obrigado mais uma vez pela oferta!

Jorge

If Rui made this great job years ago can you imagine what could he do nowadays with the printers and decals actually available?

What a great model Jorge. Thanks for sharing.

I should point out we only did the tail fin - Gemini had kindly done the rest - but be warned - this has a plasic tail and thus is really difficult to clean - so we had to do it four times to get it right - metal fine - plastic ouch

Thanks for the pictures

Thank you all, as always, for the kind comments!

Santos is right, Rui made a fine job with the rather limited resources available at that time. If I’m not mistaken (and I wish Rui could pay us a visit here to correct me!) the donor plane was originally a PAN AM.
On a curious side-note, when Gemini finally issued the TAP version, Rui’s words were “ok Jorge, now you can throw the old thing away!”…hehehehe!!!! As if!!!!!

Paulo…the totally scratchbuilt terminal is also one of many Rui’s wonderful creations….and Paulo….can you hear you the drum-roll?....yeap, we’re now waiting for YOUR pictures showing hugo’s masterpiece…..no pressure of course…
I hope it land safely!

Jorge

PS...and Paulo?...why do I get the feeling your next one is within the 707 family…

I´m with you guys about Rui skills, that was my first thought, there´s a lot of new stuff now and if you know how to do it...imagination it´s endless, and that terminal it´s really good.
And Jorge...you are 100% right on your guess, lets see how the new year comes...

Paulo, you have all the reasons to be (very) happy!
These pictures confirm hugo’s most excellent job on the tail…a perfect blend, factory-like quality finishing (actually even superior to most I’ve seen!).
Nice photos too…I particularly like the ones showings our beloved birds side-by-side!
….and the best of all: it's just in time for Christmas!
Thanks for sharing…can’t wait for 2009!

Saudações cordiais,
Jorge
