1:200 Skymarks American Airlines 777-200 REDONE

forget that crappy pseudo silver paint. im making this bird chrome!

ok i lied. i dont have any chrome pictures yet but hopefully soon. sun went down too fast today and i couldnt catch enough daylight to bust out my airbrush to do it.

btw, anyone have hasegawa 777-200 decals i can buy off of you? i missed the auction on ebay...

CR Smith Museum titles sanded off. i had to as they were raised and i didnt want them to show through the layers of paint. antenna added, hori stabs masked off, gaps puttied and we are ready...
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/IMG_9601.jpg

...for the first coat of chrome goodness! need tamiya ts-14 black first!
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/IMG_9602.jpg

and i will post more pics later hahah sorry to leave you guys hangining again haha

Theres a decal set which I'm interested in but I just checked that site and it says that its a demo site not a real site, for nostalgic purposes.

Re: 1:200 Skymarks American Airlines 777-300 REDONE

It may not be as shiny and reflective as the SkyMarks version, but it's gonna be purdy and 100% better than what it started out as.

Kai, you can make that chrome more realistic by sending it for chrome electroplating.

Re: 1:200 Skymarks American Airlines 777-300 REDONE

that skymarks is out of production a long time ago and yes its really like that

i can make mine more chromey if i smoothened the main surface more but that would take eons of work that i dont even know how to start. its pretty good already in my opinion for paint. if i wanted more chrome i think i could have used bare metal foil.

Looking good kai! I had that skymarks 772 but i wonder where it went.... hmmm....

B-16707 08-20-2008 01:42 PM

Re: 1:200 Skymarks American Airlines 777-300 REDONE

be cool if you found it and took some pictures. in my years of collecting i know of no one that has shown himself/herself to have that chrome version.

azuddin777 08-20-2008 01:46 PM

Re: 1:200 Skymarks American Airlines 777-300 REDONE

Well, not impossible to make it my own.

I just find some decal. I will send the fuselage for chrome plating rather then spray in chrome paint.

Re: 1:200 Skymarks American Airlines 777-300 REDONE

ChromeIs VERY HardTo Do.
Not Sure If This Trick WorksOn Chrome Finishes, But It Should.
Try Litghtly Sanding 800 Grit Carborundum Paper Between Coats. You Should Have Done This On The Black To Start With.
Sanding Between Coats Is How All Ultra High Gloss Finishes Are Achieved.

B-16707 08-21-2008 03:45 PM

Re: 1:200 Skymarks American Airlines 777-300 REDONE

yep, i should have sanded the body to be more smooth. oh well. i think im pretty happy with the results so far. much much better than that "silver" paint to begin with. thanks for the tips.

B-16707 08-22-2008 09:48 PM

Re: 1:200 Skymarks American Airlines 777-300 REDONE

waiting for landing gears to come in 2 weeks....after that, i need decals LOL

woohoo! everything painted up! antennas given their respective colors, under wing corrogard painted, engines done.
