Default Some things get better with age...decals donít

Still trying to round out my BA world tail fleet, this week was another 767. I have had the decal set for the Colum/Dove (Ireland) on the 767 for years (maybe a decade?) but until recently did not have a good donor model.

To say that the decals were brittle was an understatement. I gave them a couple of extra clear coats, but it did not seem to make much of a difference. It felt like I was working on the restoration of a 17th century painting. I managed to get the tail on, but the smaller registration decals were too far gone, so I will need to print some new ones.

Anyhow - here it is in its current state. Enjoy.

I have the second Delftblue (Denmark) and Waves of the City (USA) decals till to go - but they are in an equally sorry state....

This is one of my favourite World Tails! Great job! How will you print the reg. no. for the front gear doors, given they're white? Or will you simply omit them?

I usually skip that. The only way I know how is to paint the door white, then print a decal with a blue background leaving the white to show through.

If your decals are damaged because they are too old you could try to print new ones on a piece of White decal.

That's something I have already done using my basic jet ink printer.
After the printing and before using the decal, of course you apply LIQUID DECAL FILM from MICROSCALE.

So good that instead of using Clear decals (silvering effect) I will use White decals for my AF B 767-300, even for the fuselage and AF titles.
The decal is so thin that it is unnoticeable.

It should be good with a "pure white" BA livery.

Thanks. I have used white decal paper before. The challenge with these old decals is that the backing is not white, so when I scan/copy them, I would have to remove the background color before printing.

Looking ok to me.

But the title is the opposite of what I was going to post. Re-photo'd my 1/200 Concordes and a Custom G-AXDN from 2016 has suffered a paint reaction of some sort, was ok a couple of years back.
All gone wrinkled in places and stuck to the packaging. and thats with Domestic Gloss acrylic which has never caused issues.

Total rub down re-spray and re-decal. But does give me a chance to sharpen up the tail fin and tail cone.

This idea makes so much sense, would have helped with those schemes such as Star Alliance (where the vertical tail is dark with white/grey details). Many thanks for the tip. Lovely 767 too!

Ugh. Not pretty. I am lucky enough to have all my collection unboxed. It must be heartbreaking to unbox a model and see that. Good luck with the restoration.

Hi John.

I’d be happy to help out if you still need assistance? Drop me a PM if you would like me to re-print them for you and post the decals to you.
