Default Notice to all custom makers

It appears that manufacturers may be coating their tampo printing (on the fuselage) with a gloss coat. As a result the printing refuses to come off even when applying high grade acetone. Had to result to scrapping it off with a fine sharp blade(as you would on “plastic” models).
So what would normally be a 30 minute job has turned into 3 hours.

hi
I make more than 100 custom models in 1:200 and 1:400 scale.but only two times I had donor models which were coating with clear coat.
a phoenix JAL 787-8 1:200
and an NG condor 757 1:400
what companies are using coating?
do you have samples of models are coated with clearcoat?
thanks
best regards

Ben

I have been making custom models in 1/400 and 1/200 for many years and this is the first time I’ve come across coated tampo printing.
The model in question is a JC Wings (photo attached). Used many JC Wings model in the past, including the 1/400 version of this model, and never experienced any problem removing tampo printing when using acetone.
Not all the printing on this model was clear gloss coated.

thanks modelmanGB
I hope this will not be the standard with the coated finish.I also use very often the JC wings models.
I dont have any problems with gemini jc wings inflight herpa.always I attempt to avoid useing plastic models like hogan or so.
I also stopping to make 1:400. I only concentrate on the 1:200 scale now.
regards

I am working on a project right now and encountered a similar problem, i.e., tampo print would not come off using acetone. I ended up using turtle wax paste with a paper towel and a bit of elbow grease and it removed the tampo leaving paint underneath intact. Pic attached, believe it's an HYJL model.

(Forgot to mention, mask the leading edge silver as the paste will remove it as well)
