Default Two Boeing 737-500 customs

Hi guys,

the Boeing 737-500 is one of my favorite aircraft. I also have travelled numerous times on Aer Lingus and Lufthansa on this type. As there are no such models available in 1:200 I decided to do customs of the.

First up, the Aer Lingus: Donor was a Hasegawa model. Not particularly hard to assemble, however needed some time and investment in paint, glue, and pens. The green is a bit dark, however that is the Revell color they also use for the Revell Aer Lingus A330 model. The decals were from Airway Graphics, the coroguard from Liveries Unlimited. Both decals went on very hasssle free.

Next up is the Lufthansa. Donor was a Hogan Air Do. I did not remove the paint but decided to just spray over it. Unfortunatley the old livery still shines through very lightly . The decals came from Draw Decals. The whole title, door, windows, registration was one decal, that was a nice and time saving idea. The Lufthansas have white wings, however I have not been able to get a decal for the "do not walk outside this line" line.

I found the Hogan model really good, while I also very much liked the detail of the Airway Graphic decals, which seemed to be more detailed and a better replication from the original.

Hope you like the models.

Markus

Those two Baby-Boeings are really lovely aircraft! Especially the paint job is done nice and smooth. Complements.
Don't bother to much about the dark green. Scale effect and different ways of lighting always force you to make something that 'looks about right' in 1/200 scale rather than something that is 100% accurate in 1/1. Just a tip for a next build (and DAC readers who are planning to do a custom Aer Lingus >2000 livery) Xtracolor X311 should be the perfect match for Aer Lingus dark green models. https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X311

cheers VJ

Very nice job, congratulations.

Hogan models are a very good base for custom models.
On Hogan models, tampo printing can easily be removed with non acetone nail polish remover and if you insist a little more, all the paint will follow, your model will be ready for primer application, painting and decals.

Depending on the livery, you may choose to have the wings unchanged, very easy with a snap fit model.
That's what I did with an AF A 300 B, the fuselage was re painted but the wings remained the same.
I attach a picture, the model is at the same standard as an original Hogan model.

I understand that you need some decals for the wings of your Lufthansa model.
You can draw the limits of the walkway on a white piece of paper and print them on a clear decal with your printer.
I did something similar with my recent Constellation, very easy and it works …
Usually my drawings are made at a larger scale and re scaled during the printing.
The walkway on the wings and the horizontal stabilizers are an example.

Keep up the good work.

Jean Pierre.

Postscriptum : I apologize for publishing pictures of my models, I don't want to highjack your thread ...

Hi guys,

thanks for all your positive feedback. Much appreciated.

Hi VJ, thanks for the tip on the xtracolor. Was looking into that as well, however shipping takes quite a toll so decided for the easy solution.

Hi Jean Pierre, you are more than welcome to add pictures to the thread! Thanks for the guidance on the walkways. I will give this a try, as this is a pretty distinct feature of the Lufthansa livery.

I can only agree that using Hogans as basis is a great way to create customs. They are really neat models.

Both turned out nice. I especially like the Aer Lingus.

Hello Markus,

thank You very much for Your pictures. You built two very nice models. I like Lufthansa very much.

About the Lufthansa, I think that there should be either the eye brow windows or the lufthansa.com letters but not both.
You can find a picture on airliners.net from April 2010 as reference if You search for D-ABIN 737-500.

Best regards,

Jan

Hi Markus,

I have one more Information for You. You can order black stripe decals from TL-Modellbau. They have Decal sets "stripes" in different colors. You can check the link below.
