Default 1/200 Goldhofer AST-1 X Towbarless Tug - Shapeways Custom

Hi Folks,

Seeing Charlie Alpha's post about the Inflight 200 ANZ 777-300ER and his custom tugs inspired me to post some photos of the AST-1 X tug I painted up in Qantas colours. This was my first modelling effort after a 20 year hiatus so bearing that in mind I think it turned out OK!

AFAIK, Qantas doesn't have any AST-1 X so this is a fantasy model. I bought this 3D printed tug from Shapeways ages ago and unfortunately it doesn't look like it is available any longer. This is a real shame as I would have liked to do a couple more in different liveries.

Looking forward to the upcoming JC 1:200 GSE.

Thumbs up Re: 1/200 Goldhofer AST-1 X Towbarless Tug - Shapeways Custom

That's a nice job on that tug! Better than 'OK', IMHO. Even more so after a 20 year hiatus.

Pity it always seems to be so difficult to find a decent supply of well-detailed tugs. They are either in kit form, or simply non-existent in ready-made form, be it diecast or resin.

A couple of years back I had the good fortune to be able to test-build a resin kit for a member here. Of the few kits I've built after my 40 year hiatus, I thought this was going to be a breeze. Gawd, this little 6 piece kit really gave me a run for my money when it came to application of the decals. A very nice challenge indeed, but a diecast or resin finished model would have been a run-away success here if nicely detailed with spectacular stencil detail like the decals that came with mine. Maybe someday some manufacturer will see the obvious light.

Thanks Upkeep - your GSE looks schweet! Knowing how small these things are, that's a very neat looking job you've done - love the detail.

The 3D-printed one I made up came in one piece with simplified details and a very rough texture which was a bit of a pain, and of course no decals. I remember seeing a resin kit posted here but can't find any on EBay now.

Hoping the new JC ones will offer an affordable foundation for customs!

Cheers,
Terence.

Nice work Terence.
Working on something so small must be a challenge. I was going to ask you for one of these but I got a feeling that we will be able to purchase of JCW

Qantas to retire 747-438 before it's 100th birthday (founded 16th November 1920)

The last six are 747-438ER's VH-OEE, VH-OEF, VH-OEG, VH-OEH, VH-OEI, VH-OEJ

I have a Goldhofer AST-1 produced in kit form by Roca Scale Models, I have started work on it but I made a pause, I am busy with two model aircraft …

I plan a Fraport livery.

Pictures when finished.

Jean Pierre.

Thanks Jean Pierre and Kucing. Kucing, I really like your Goldhofer tug on Shapeways and the detail options it has, but with the shipping to Australia it ends up to be quite pricey unfortunately. You have some great looking simplified 1:400 scale tugs and GSE there; perhaps you would consider scaling those up?
