I looked at this zombie thread, and it just keeps coming back. It's a great idea, but in six years, nothing has happened...other than to keep the yakking heads yakking.

Zombie is a great description for this thread.

But some weird input. Like clear windows ? Yea that would be as good as plastic kits or old Aerominis.

And custom blanks with printed windows and doors. Not sure how that works when you apply the scheme, especially if pax windows are printed too high in incorrect position.

Probably not going to happen so get the paint stripper out.

If a person needs a blank model to make a custom model, all you would need is a bare metal or possibly white airplane. Due to the fact that a lot of airliners have cheatlines that window decals would have to be placed over, and door decals would have to be laid over the cheatlines also, what is the use of having anything on the model. Just leave it completely blank.

I am sorry. I misunderstood the post. If you get a blank model I guess cocpit windows with cabin windows and doors printed as decals would work great.

Thumbs up Re: Make Your Own Models ... Please read.

Dip one of your diecast models - any model - into a vat of acetone. Voilà! Ready for customization.

That's all very well, but when you apply a cheatline, it may cover up the windows, so you would need a set of window decals to overlay the cheatline. The ideal solution would be to have the cockpit/passenger windows printed PLUS have another set as decals to make the model more adaptable to different liveries.
Another issue is that all the options say 'WHITE', but what if the livery has a grey or metal belly/wings?

The OP mentioned 'artist', surely a skilled person wouldn't be bullied by the thought of painting the belly/wings..

Can anyone give me advice on how to remove the engines and wings from say a DW model without breaking them. I am trying to start making a few of my own airliner models that either have not been produced or are no longer made. To mask and paint these models is extremely difficult with the engines and wings on the model.

Regards
Roswell

I will generally create, from scratch, all the decals I need to make a custom model, including all windows and doors. Reason for this is that airlines have varying patterns for windows depending on interior seating layouts etc. for example, an Easyjet A320 may have a slightly different window pattern to a BA A320.
So for me a plain all white model, perhaps with just a cockpit window decal.
Only the cockpit decal was saved to create this custom.

Well, this thread is nearly 13 years old and still no progress with any manufacturer! I think Mike (ModelmanGB) is the only person on here that has actually done anything towards this.
If we can't get any manufacturer interested, then someone needs to just make a full set of decals in 1/400 for various airlines and types (probably to order from a listing or catalogue). I would then quite happily repaint any available model to suit. Surely, it must be simple to scan any commercially-available decals from a model plastic kit and downsize them to fit a 1/400th model and print them off on white lazer decal paper?

Mike - Viscounts please - Air France, Air Inter, Icelandair, Cambrian, BEA delivery, Austrian Airlines, KLM, South African Airways all to fit the Aeroclassics moulds.

Probably in the minority here but I would like to see models released in full livery but without registrations. Then I could apply my own registrations to represent the aircraft I actually flew on. Doubt it will happen.

I would love an Eastern Airlines A300 or better still a "what if" A320 in 1:200 scale!

Printed and with a set of decals would be a very interesting choice. This way all type of livery, even the most complicated with colorful cheat lines will be a lot more easyer to apply on the customized model.
