Question Do you need a special printer?

I would like to make a custom model, I was wondering do I need a special printer or ink to make the decals, or can a normal one be used?

Thanks

you can use either.

Yes- you can buy an Alps printer with decal paper, or use your current inkjet, and use somthing like the decal kit from paper paper, which is now carried at hobby lobby.

Default Downloading decals

Where do I go to download decals? What is the price range for them, and how difficult are they to apply to small aircraft? I have only decaled 1:200 and 1:250 plastic models.

Decal paper....... Mmmmm....... Can I get that in the United Kingdom? Any ideas of where I should go for it?

I second the request above about where to download the decal images from the net.

I think any hobby shop would have decal paper. I have yet to check out my local shop to see if they do.

As for decal supplies you might check out any of the following... several of these sites also offer tips on their application. I've been using Experts Choice decal material without any problems...

http://www.airline-hobby.com/

http://www.drawdecal.com/

http://www.paper-paper.com/Supercal-USA.html

Downloadable decals??? Can't say I've come across that service at any of the decal websites... who offers that??? Most premade decal sets sell for $5-$10US and are usually only available in 1:100, 1:144 or 1:200 scale. So if you want to do 1:400 you'll have to custom order them in that scale or scan, resize and reprint them to suite...

Oh, I thought that they were readily available in 1:400. Looks like I will be looking into buying a scanner. Thanks,

Pete

Let me get this straight you can make your own decal by just buying a decal paper and printing it in any printer ?? can any picture or logo can be printed out .. do you think a HP deskjet would do ???

And Aside from local hobby shops where can you buy a decal paper except from the internet .. do Bookstores sell this ine ??

MNL,

I wouldn't say that any printer will work, you need to have a printer that has photo quality, at least 1200 X 600 dpi.

I have NEVER seen the decal paper anywhere but online.

I can print almost anything in to a decal, there are limitations of color, an inkjet can not print silver, gold, white.

I have never heard of downloadable decals either, personally I draw each and every one of the decals that I print.
