Lawdy, I'd love to have one of these in Air Florida livery. He's a lucky man.

The triple slotted flaps of the B 727 is a great choice to demonstrate your skill and the paint job is fantastic.
Congratulations !
I would like to be able to do the same, I have great memories with the B 727.

He is about as good as you get. You should see the Fantasy Pan Am B747-8 he did for I believe his handle is "Charlie Alpha" down in San Diego. His prices are not insane considering how much labor that go's into them. Just scroll through his other posts and see the masterpieces he has made. It doesn't get any better.

I would be curious to know where the PSA is going to live when finished? I would love to have a Aeroamerica B720 I believe they had? Air Florida B727,World DC-10 (red & gold) I better stop, because I could keep going. The entire Western Pacific Logo jet fleet.

Thumbs up Re: Psa b727-200

Sorry guys and gals,I should have put all these multiple posts into just one. "Marine One" (sorry,I don't know your name),you should have a plexi glass dust cover for your piece of art. Look on Ebay, they have them for football helmets,footballs....... no dust should touch this. Listen to me,I'm like a giddy little kid. I really like PSA. Have several pieces in 400 and 200 scale. Obviously nothing even close to this. Do I have my names wrong, did you get the Pan Am B747-8? I think it went to SAN as well?

Brad, are those window decals or did you put shades behind the windows? I'm sure it's decals but in the photos you posted a day or two ago, looks so 3-dimensional

Hi,

All the flaps and slats are made from scratch. I first had to remove originals and shape the new 3 layer flaps.. I mostly trace and eyeball the dimensions to build them. Lots and lots of photo reference of wings too!

They really do. Those are some of the most realistic looking window decals I've ever seen. I'm sure it's obvious they are decals up close, but in pics or from a few feet away... damn! Looks so real.

Hey there Kitty Hawk … Bert here … and yes indeedy this model is coming my way sometime in the not-too-distant future. This will be a belated Christmas gift to myself (my wife doesn't even know about it yet) … the previous model I had Brad commission was the fantasy Pan Am 747-8 that's sitting on top of my IKEA cabinet - another work of art!

I am already planning on protecting this PSA model with a plexiglas enclosure as I will surely want to protect it from the elements - particularly my wife's dust rags and the like! You never know when she'll be on the rampage, and as much as I tell her NOT to dust in my office, Murphy's Law is a constant concern, so my shielding it from all possible harm I can ensure maximum longevity of survival for this model.

Brad is a true pleasure to work with, and he'll truly go out of his way to make sure that you're happy with the final result. These PSA decals are CUSTOM for this model, and took awhile to produce - but as you can see the results speak for themselves. We even had the printer "fade" the colors by about 10% as opposed to their original "fresh" and brilliant PMS values. It looks better as it appears the plane has been in airline service for a few years (along with Brad's again techniques).

Looking forward to the outdoor shots!

PSA was a beloved San Diego hometown airline, occasionally affectionately referred to as Poor Sailor's Airline. Sadly, PSA was merged into US Airways and oblivion. There is quite a lot of PSA DNA in Southwest Airlines!

Despite having lived in SAN since 1974, I only flew them once - and it was a memorable event. The Aerospace Museum in Balboa Park was destroyed by arson in 1978, and PSA ran a series of fund-raiser flights in a 727. Fun flight up the coast towards Los Angeles and a return, with IIRC all of the funds donated to rebuilding.

Trivia: Later that year, PSA 182 operating from LAX to SAN crashed following a mid-air collision with a Cessna 172. Then and current California Governor Jerry Brown was booked on the flight, but arrived late and missed the Sacramento-LAX segment.

Brad's awesome custom model is a fitting tribute to an iconic airline and airframe. The 727 looks as great today as it did when first flown in 1963!

That is a great observation! The PSA 727-200 has been replicated in all manner of diecast, plastic kit, and very large scale renditions. But none convey the intrinsic complexities of the wing flaps/slats, moderately weathered decals, and hours of attention from a master modeler!

As the owner of three of Brad's masterpieces, I can tell you I sure appreciate his amazing artistry! I'll have to commission another build just so I can have those new passenger window 3-D decals!

Great recollection there Scott - I had no idea that Jerry Brown was that close to being a passenger on that flight! Ironically he is our present governor nearly 40 years later … and about the only thing that has changed is that he is no longer dating Linda Ronstadt

So true - I was at the Aerospace Museum in Balboa Park last year and they had some PSA 727s, but primarily of the PacMin variety. Attractive from afar, but far from attractive from a modeling standpoint. What Brad had rendered is truly a one-of-a-kind museum masterpiece. I will have to create a diorama for this if I have the time to do it full justice.

Doesn't the model almost look better upside down?

A true masterpiece !
It looks more like a real Boeing 727 than a model of one !

Final thoughts … this incredible model arrived via FedEx safely on Friday, and thanks to an excellent packing job by Brad, this VERY heavy solid resin model arrived intact and unscathed (except for losing the upper antenna which I will replace shortly) despite its long ground transit of 4 days across the country via transport truck. (Speaking of which, we may take it for granted, but these package delivery services, whether they be FedEx, UPS or even the uSPS, generally do an AMAZING job of getting these packages delivered throughout the U.S. and world, despite challenging weather and environmental conditions. I know they're not necessarily cheap, but considering the complex infrastructure that they operate, it's impressive that things go as smoothly as they do - especially when you're waiting on a Brad Shinn creation!)

The model is truly a museum piece, and as I have told Brad previously, I am looking to loan this model out to the San Diego Aerospace Museum here in Balboa Park, and if it works out, they can incorporate it into the PSA exhibit. First order of priority is to buy/build a custom plexiglas display case for it to keep the dust off …

Again, if anyone is ever looking for a custom airliner replica, I can't more emphatically recommend Brad … but y'all knew that already … RIGHT?

I would love to see something that I have built in a museum before I bite the tarmac.

How about having an online museum of all of your masterpieces, every proud owner (including myself) will upload photos of their models, with a description of the significance they have to them, and the emotional value of the models.

It will be an ever lasting contribute to your great work and our appreciation for it
