Default Brad Shinn Virgin Atlantic B747-400

Hi Guys,

Here's the start of a Virgin Atlantic B747-400 in the "Birthday Girl" livery. The kit will be a 1/200 Hasegawa 747-400 ANA and a "One Nighter" Virgin Atlantic Hasegawa 747-400 kit.
She will be all flapped out with spoilers too...

Thanks guys...I will try to explain what is going on with the build. In this step.

I used some cyanoacrylate glue to attach some Evergreen styrene to the inside of fuselage to help support the putty.

I used some Squadron putty for filling in the windows from the outside. I also filled in the cargo doors and passenger doors except the very bottoms of pass doors for future reference points. The putty will shrink as it dries so several coats between sanding will be needed. I will try to save as many panel lines as possible, however these panels will be rescribed later.
Antenna's will be replaced by photoetched parts when all is near completion. The weight will be added to forward section when halves are glued together. I will add cockpit window after haves are together and the pass windows are good and smooth from sanding.

I like the technique you used to apply a backing strip to the passenger windows - definitely helps support the putty much better!

For me it was just a "smear campaign" with the putty all over the place ...

Thanks...and to everybody else too.

Here is a way I do the fans for the build.

I spray painted them flat black and with the sharp exacto knive scrape off the black from the top of the fans. I added some spinner decals to them as well. I will hand paint or add decals to the inside of the engine inlets after the outer narcels are glued and painted.
nothing fancy here just keep it simple and clean .

Yes the fuselage is painted and it has the tail and fuselage decals on it. The windows are a tape with windows stamped on the strip...kinda crudely built but I gues serves the concept. No other parts are painted..I would just use for parts if I make too many mistakes here.

Walthers guaranteed to make decals stick .
Walthers is a good decal snuggler!

With everything dry I went ahead and painted the fuselage matt white then a coat of pearly white. I left just a tad of door outlines for the window/door decal placement for later. Added some APU outlet detail too.

New panel lines will be added after this is really dry.

Thanks G-EORG!!

Here are some GE's painted up. I added the little grey rings inside the cowlings before the hot sections... The kit doesn't have those rings/shields that help deflect the air on reverse thrust.

The 747-400 has kreuger flaps inboard of the inboard engines, as described they help to ensure that in the event of a stall the inboard section of the wing will stall first. Outboard of the pylons 2 and 3 are variable camber leading edge FLAPS.

Hope this helps .

BTW I'm going on a Turkish prison tour in Sept.and want to know if you want to tag along ?

I read an article that some Virgin pilots referred to their aircraft engines as "BRT's" or Big Red Things. Very clever indeed!

What on Earth does Linda Lovelace have to do with "actuators"?

Here is a photo of the outer main flap. I'm not too sure if it's a good enough shape though... Cut from plastic.
