Default My Completed 1:500 Project (with photos)

Below are photos of my completed 1:500 airport. For a change of pace, I decided to make an imaginary airport rather than a model of an existing airport.

All of the terminals, jetways, ground equipment, and accessories are homemade. The only things I didn't make for the airport are the aircraft!

love it. Its awesome, Photo from the top view is the best, actually looks really realistic there.. Saladin just start of anywhere... once you start then it'll just build it self. it took me ages to go from planning to building aswell.. oh btw you gotta teach me how you make your plane signatures.

This particular pier styled airport is the kind of layout I've always wanted because you can show aircraft from the '60s to now. Hats off to you Willio for doing such an excellent job.

very very nice airport!
The home-made jetways, are to me, the speciality of this airport!
You made them very nite, and they are realy helping making this airport looks good.
The three different concources also help the airport look full and active, as usual.
Keep on updating!

Very nice! Love the jetways. Just one thing, from model railway experience I think your green grass should be toned down a little. Not so bright a green, maybe a little darker. Otherwise a great job. Well done!

The jetways are made from two angle pieces of styrene stuck together with one end inserted into a wider tube of styrene. The round parts of the jetway are made with a Pentel mechanical pencil eraser cut in half. The whole assembly is then spray painted. The stairs, lights, and hoods are all made with styrene as well and the signage is simply printed out.

And alexczarn, I agree that the green color is a little bit too bright. However, it works out okay because it is displayed in a poorly lighted rooom, which makes it pop out nicely.

Thanks!

Willio,

Great airport, and wonderful design! Certainly inspiring. I had a question for you though. I am guessing you were using Plastruct and Evergreen for you buildings, but I am curious what you used for the windows? Thanks! Looking forward to more pictures.

Nice overview! This is the advantage you have for collecting smaller scale.
As a 1/200 scale colletor, there is no way I could have layout like this...
Always a portion of airport section diorma.

Nice work!

I am not @sskissing by by saying that this is PERFECT!
Let me point out the facts!
- beautyfull layout, very thorougly planned and excuted!
- Minimalistic detail to the max (signs, commercials, good number of GSE, cars roads....WOW)
-AMAZING scratchbuilt terminal! One of the best textures and architectures seen by far!
- I love the overly vivid colors of grass, water and lines! They remind the viewer that this is a model adnm I WOULD NOT change this feature! "Correcting" it will be wrong!
- The apron color and lining are phenomenal! Again.. back and forth from reality to model! Lines are perfectly drawn, yet too vivid!
-Photography...excelent shots, lighting and angle!
One thing you can do to improve:
TAKE MORE PICS to share with us with different airplanes visting
THANK YOU!

Any chance you'd consider publishing or emailing the plans for the buildings?
I've got the Card/paper ones from Airport Creations , but yours look better to me.

Thanks

I'm happy to send the plans to you if you'd like--be warned, though, the "plans" are really only a page or two of very rough sketches and diagrams. I figured out most of the terminal design as I went.

And I agree, the grass certainly is not a shade that I've ever seen either! For some reason, I decided to chose a paint color that really pops. The room I display the airport in is fairly dark, so it actually works out alright.

Thanks for the comments, y'all!
