Default Frankfurt/Dusseldorf International Airport

Here is my airport. I use 1/500 scale models from mainly Herpa and a few StarJets. All of the runway markings, taxiway markings and airplane gates/stands are used in pencil. The satellite terminal includes Gulf Air A340, (future) Northwest 787, Lufthansa A330 (about to take off), Royal Air Maroc 747-4, Emirates A340-5, Corsair 747-2, (not pictured) Asiana 777-2, (future) TAM 777-3, United Airlines 777-2, (future) Delta 777-2. The Cargo Ramp features a Libyan Air Cargo AN-124, a JAL Cargo 747-2 and an Airbus A300-6ST and (future) Rossiya AN-124. The smaller International terminal features Olympic Dash 8, Air Dolomiti Bae-146, airBaltic 737-5, Bangkok Air 717 (yes a little far for that airline , Balair 757-2, Emirates A300 (ready to take off), Eva Air MD-11, CityBird 767-3, Travel Service 737-8, Air VIA A320 and Lauda 737-7. LTU's home terminal features 3x767-3's, 2xA330-3's, and MD-11 and a Condor 767-3. LTU's shared intercontinental terminal includes and LTU 757-2, 3x LTU A320's in special paint and one A320 in regular paint; also Hapag-Lloyd 737-7, Germania 737-7, Air Berlin 737-8, Lufthansa A321 and Condor 757-2. Hope you enjoy!!!!

and some more pictures. I hope to, with more time and effort, add GSE to the airport to make it look more realistic...Feel free to offer opinions and comments/questions...

Hey, you seem to have quite a lot of space in your room... The airport is quite big and it doesn't look bad at all. Even though I like the pencil markings, I'd rather see it painted in gray with yellow taxiway markings and white runway markings. I know this would be a hell lot of work, 'cos you'd need to do all the markings again.... BUT: It's definitely worth it AND you could even add some green areas (grass), as it is on most of the German airports

I agree. you have a big setup, so some color and texture is needed.

the pencil work is neat, a different look, though it leaves you with inverted colors on the runway. that's fine, though, i think the runway looks good. but the grass, the taxiways, the apron need help. I think you could start upgrading by adding green grass, and yellow tape as appropriate. then make further improvements from there. For taxiways, apron - decide now whether you want the current base to be visible, or you want more realistic color/texture.

Thank you for all of your comments! I will definitely add the grass, as for the taxiway, I'm not quite sure on how I should go about painting it? Do you have any suggestions? Like the type of paint and even the certain gray?

I would recomment doing the grey taxiways and the runways with spray paint, like they use it for graffiti. The specific colour is competely up to you, as there are lots of different types of grey on the the different airports. Even with the age, the colour of concrete, which is used quite often, can differ. So don't hesitate to try it out. I would use a a light grey, like the one, the forum uses as background for the posts. If you use a darker grey, you can see the the markings a lot better.

Instead of spray paint, you could create the whole taxiways and runways on the computer, print it out and then put it on your airport. In that case, you can do all the markings on your pc and needn't add anything by hand....

Have fun painting your airport, mate!

I took your advice on the painting, seeing as the foils would just take longer. Here are some pics of the progress. I still have to get gray paint for the tarmac and yellow paint for the lines.

That doesn't look bad, even though, the markings still look a little childish.... When you do the taxiway markings, you could try using masking tape to make the contours of your lines, then paint it and put away the masking tape, as soon as the paint is dried completely. That is a lot more work, to be honest, but it helps you painting very nice and clean contours....

Sorry, that this comes a little late for the runway.
