Lightbulb My Model Airport

My Model Airport
I originally started off with the full 6 Gemini Jets mat and terminal. After a long while I then decided I wanted to customise my model airport. My original plan was to add model grass only, but this slowly changed over time.

Stage 1 - Customisation.
Add model grass - Done
Customise Jetties - Done
Customise Terminal buildings (e.g office windows) - Done,
Taxiway Markings - Done
Attach mats to a permanent board - Done
Add Taxi, Runway and external terminal lights - Done

Stage 2 - More Customisation.
Add details inside the terminal buildings - progress on hold (3 pictures show windows missing, these have been re-attached.)
I still have more ideas in planning stages but any suggestions, let me know.

The pictures

Three British airways concordes, how I remembered seeing them on the last day.

I commend you for not being satisfied with a store-bought airport, and putting much effort of your own into customising it.

The lighting is designed for display purposes rather then what is at real airports, my model airport lighting system is created using Herpa fibre optic cables and Herpa LED box.

I tried, but all the pictures were bad for the overview of the airport at night (my fault), it is only one led rather then two together as the picture shows. (Will try again later for a new photo)

The 27L on the runway has been drilled and lighted up.

Again, i tryed to take some detailed shots of the taxiway signs with them lighted up at night but the camera would not show them clearly after many attempts, the 2nd photo under engine 3 shows slight clear signage.

The picture below is two pictures made into one, this is to show the top half with no natural light, and the bottom picture with natural light and taxiway and stand, terminal lighting on.

I would like to thank a few people who have supported me in creating my model airport.

Airspotters - Malcolm and Aviation Retail Direct - Paul, both have given me excellent service and support, and I have received great deals from both.

And friends and family.

I would appreciate any feedback, suggestions, ideas on my model airport,

*Jas*

(All the pictures should be working now, in total including this post is 23 pictures)

Very nice job with the lights! Also, I think I know why the GJ airport accessories are sold out at most retailers....you bought them all!!!

As for as GJ terminal go, this one definitely stands out. Some subtle, some not so subtle customizations all add up to a great project. Great job Jas!

Hello Airtran airways 717, do you mean making the black and yellow wider then they are, as at the moment i use gemini jets mat and they seem to fit my model aircraft wheels perfectly

Did you add solar panels to the roof?

I don't have a GJ terminal set, so I don't know it that well, but in every corner I look, it looks like you might have changed something. If you uploaded a picture and circled all the changes you made, I wonder how it would look.

Hello Anoncollector,

i have not added solar panels to the roof, the roof is how it came out of the box, i have just looked at all the pictures and it might be this:

Do you mean the brown stripe on top of the middle terminal, sorry that is the gemini jets terminal window that is taken off the terminal in front of the virgin plane, it has now been reattached to the terminal

Thanks
Jas

Wow, I am really impressed. Not of the GJ terminal but the custom work afterwards. Too many buys the Terminal but doesn't do anything to customize or making it look better then just that taken out of the box. Great work. Lots of GSE's. Good job.

Just started work on the interior of the terminal, while still adding and improving on the exterior of the airport.

Only one picture (bad quality again) as i have only just started and have only completed two windows yet, ten more to go so will take more pictures when completed

I have created a background containing the shop and then another printed layout for the seating area infront of the shops.

(I wont attach the picture in the thread as its very wide, if i show only the terminal the flash makes the interior not visible, without flash its not as detailed as what i can see)

I have nearly had 1000 Views so thank you to everybody viewing my thread

I am not sure which comes first, if it is the double pole or the single pole?, that is closest to the start of the runway .

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Some More Pictures...

I have completed stage two:
Adding detail to inside the terminal building as shown in the picture below, one print out of some shops and another print infront of that of of some seats and screens.

i have also cleaned and added some wear and tear areas to stands and edges of taxiways.

External office windows now completed on both sides.

Well that's the model airport complete to this point ,

I do still have a few more ideas that i want to develop/add that will include:
customising vechicles.
wear and tear on the taxiways.

I would appreciate any feedback, suggestions, ideas on my model airport.

Hello Cathay Pacific,

I very very very very carefully took the windows out, and inserted my interior printout and attached the windows to the terminal again.

I had one window snap but once attached to the terminal i cant remember which one it was ** Do Not try this though, as the windows can snap **

Thanks

Very nice job! I especially like the interior and the lighting, and I must say, you have quite the GSE fleet!

Although one problem with the GJ terminal is that it is fact a GJ terminal and without completely overhauling the thing, it will still always remain strikingly simliar to one. Although as far as custumizing goes, you've done (or will do since you might not be quite done yet)a stellar job, but you appear to be reaching the end of the list of possible modifications.

Does it have a control tower!? I didn't see one in the pics, and if it doens't you should totally build one. You could add a rooftop garden too and maybe some hangars and stuff outside.

Keep up the good work!

It does not have a control tower at the moment i was waiting to see what gemini jets release but i have been looking at the herpa tower. Hangers i am waiting to see what gemini release for extending the airport mat (not the mat released this month) but i do like the rooftop garden area/viewing area.

Thanks jas

(sorry for the late reply)

So many GSE, I thought I had a lot on my airport which were made by me, they must have cost you a bundle but well worth it, to make a realistic airport.

How about making some card GSE to complete a realistic airport scene and even people.

Well done on making an impressive airpoirt.

Hello brookland,

I wont be adding any of my own card GSE as i think it will look out of place , and i still have another task of customising the vehicles to start. I do have a few passengers, well 6 in a corner inside the terminal at the moment .

Thanks for the ideas

Thats the best airport i have seen can i ask how much have you spent just on the airport ( not the models ) so that i get a rough idea how much all this costs besides the hardwork and loads of time and thinking.
Would love to do something like this
you inspire me.
And this includes one terminal buiding and i airport mat or multiple terminal and multiple mats ?
Thanks man.,
And PS nice collection but a better airport !

Hello madnish30, cost wise i dont know and i dont even wanna try calculating it, but it was never to do with cost it was always to have an airport, even if it was one stand or 22 stands for me. It is a gemini jets ground mat set 1 (6 floor mats) but i have customised 3 mats on mine as i did not need the 2nd runway or water area). It also has the gemini jets terminal set, three terminal buildings that can be used seperately or all 3 in a line, like mine is (mine is customised though). Thank you for the very nice comments

Thank you once again too all the nice comments about the model airport, i have made some small changes around the airport, as well as spring clean it, so more pictures will be added as well as a website that will contain a better write up of this whole thread.

Jas

As for as GJ terminal go, this one definitely stands out. Some subtle, some not so subtle customizations all add up to a great project. Great job Jas!
I was thinking the same thing in regards to the GSE. Wow. That is a lot of dough spent on detail.
