I have just one simple question, what are you using for grass?

Thank you

I use the grass on a roll that you can find at Hobby Lobby or Hobbytown USA. I cant remember what it is called though.

Generally, I use green felt paper (well, before I started heving the grass printed along with the actual foil). Felt has a good texture that works well with small scales. It may look a bit flat, though, so I have to dab and blot some sections with diluted acrylic color in varying shades of green and brown. This will create realistic shades on the grassy landscape. Make sure to cut out the felt neatly into the required shape and size. Glue works well, but I usually use tissue tape since it's neater.

Another material you can used is flocking powder. Just apply it over a thin layer of glue and tap off the excess - it can get messy, though.

I've also tried finely pulped papier mache. Again, it's a little messy and hard to control. But you can use varying shades of green acrylic paint for it to look grassy.

I´m using a fine coat of grass over the satellite image in my Heathrow model airport.

The real image of the grass in the plates will be very useful. First of all, will be necessary to mask the edges of the grass islands and also all the small details in the edge of the runway, like fuse boxes...etc

After that, you have to put the white (transparent when dry) glue with a brush to spread the Noch or Woodland scenics fine turf in the desired colour. I used burned grass because i had one complete bag and it looks ok.

It is important that you spread this material from at least 1 meter height and in the exact quantity. It only has to give volume to the grass but the below texturized ground has to be visible. That way, when you see the model from above you can see the real terrain and when you change the point of view to a very low position, you see the perfect grass effect. Please, see the pictures and you will understand.

The effect is so real if you use this method.

So far I think is the best bet. Nick...I thought the best "grass" came from an Island in the Caribbean...
