Lightbulb Anybody want Custom GSE (airigami)

Well, my friend gave me an interesting idea today. He wanted me to make him a whole bunch of airigami gse for his new airport he's making. He was so happy with it he said i should make a buisness doing this kind of thing. He said I could make people airigami sets and then email them softcopies.

So, i figured it wasn't a bad idea. Anybody want to buy some? Pretty cheap i would say...

A set of airline GSE includes: An Airline Bus, a tug, a little truck, some open-top airstairs, and a belt loader.
Other things i have are: a Cara catering truck, and some bagage containers.

Prices
$1 for a set of GSE i've already made (at the moment that only consists of new and old air canada colours and westjet and more to come very soon)
1 set includes a set of airline GSE and if you want i can throw in some bagage containers and a catering truck free of charge providing i've already made it.

$2 for an airline gse set repaint with the primary colour being white.

other options:

$2 extra to make a vehicle that i haven't already made

$4 for an airline gse set repaint with the primary colour being something other than white.

I thought his idea didn't sound half bad, what do you guys think?

I like the idea, can you post some pics of these and what scale would the gse be in?

You've probably been asked this thousands of times but what paper is that printed on?

Thanks!

that depends on what ever paper you have. i was intending just to email the soft copies out to everyone, but for those without printers, i can probably arrange something for you.

hmmmmm, i did draw up a design for a fuel truck but i dont know how well it'll work. HGV Lorry's seem easily makable. Wind socks would be interesting to make but i don't know it paper would be your best option. I'd be happy to give that a try. Can you name precisicely everything you want?

It's a good idea, besides the Airigami sheet that has been posted before there is not much else around. I need a lot of GSE for my 1/400 airport, but I am not prepared to spend the money it would cost to buy the plastic GSE on the market to fill my airport.

Can I suggest you expand the Airigami sheet, a better tow truck, cargo pallet loader, open stairs, electrical truck, toilet truck, fuel truck and I'm desperate for some cars.

I posted a website that has hundreds of lorries a few weeks ago, I use 170g/sm paper.

I was taking a break from posting, but I feel this should be said;

Or instead of selling someone else's work (the Airgami GSE, as I'm not sure if it's copyrighted, but if it is, you are technically breaking copyright there, and that can get you in trouble), the same person could save about a good $.80-$1.80 (with that $.20 really going to paper/ink costs), manage to obtain the GSE set themselves, manage to modify their paint scheme in MS Paint, then shrink/enlarge them down to the proper size needed. I have made plenty of buses that were originally at 1:87 shrunken down properly to 1:500 and almost got a Police Car and Taxi down (though it ends up resembling a mid-sized SUV, like a Ford Explorer), and Ambulance, Police Van, and my own fleet of FedEx tractor Trailers. I say that everyone should put in a bit of imagination, look around the house, and try to make it themselves, especially the ones that want to have a massive fleet of GSE (and you'll save a nice bundle of cash to perhaps even introduce a new model.) And also, you'll have fun, since you don't have to "use" the whole "sheet", you can cut out parts, and then printing out like 40 tugs, 80 airstairs, 50 catering trucks and so forth, and not have to use that insanely ugly bus which is way too wide, but use a more beautiful example that was scaled down.

Gargle Jus, I have an even better idea, if you're going to sell GSE, you should try to make something that can blow Airgami out of the water. There was once a guy on Wings or DAC called Millimodel or something like that. I really recommend you search him up and look at the GSE he made. It was really good, and even though the production prices were higher than Airigami, they were so nice that people were willing to break out like .50 cents a piece! You could make an even better business off of that.

His website is www.millimodelle.de but no 1/400 and the site has not been updated since 2006. Some of the models look alright and some of them look pretty poor.

Your idea of a sheet of one piece of GSE is a good idea.

Look at this site for quality Norbtach's pages some containers have graffiti on them but wasted on 1/400 & 1/500. I've used the trucks & lorries in my cargo area.

Well, I was referring to what you can make in any scale. Anyways, I have posted paper trucks, buses and vans from a site that has a bit more than that place. I posted a few of them years ago.

Anyways, one sheet GSE is easy, just clip out the part you need from the Airgami or whatever, modify as needed, then make as many as you can in MS paint or other similar program.

Here is a thread from a long time back that can help.
http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...del-links.html
Of course, quickly just looking at this site, looks like it was taken down over time.

The pictures were erased a while back, but I'll post some later to show you guys what I have made. Mind you as you get smaller, it starts to get harder to make the paper vehicles.

This site in particular is great for some vehicles, it has changed over time. And I can't seem to find the paper cars. Thankfully, I should have the large templates from his site on this machine. I'll just need to put them into my photo bucket and upload them for you. You can modify what they have and enjoy from there .

It isn't that hard, nor is it a secret. Just get the busses you need, and then modify them in a program like MS Paint.

I managed to get the Hertz bus, so thanks for that.

Anything is easy once you know the answer or method, at 62 I can handle most things on a PC, but I have never had the need to use any packages like MS Paint. Anyway I want to build an airport not design items for it, that is why I was prepared to pay for a sheet of stairs, tow trucks etc., I already pay Eztoys for the matts and Airport Designs for the buildings, why not someone else for the GSE, I think it's a great idea.

This is not meant to be a negative reply to your answer as it was very helpful, I just want members to understand we are not all budding artist/designers.

There is really no need for being an expert of any type though, MS Paint is a very simple program to use. All you have to remember is the essential commands. Most importantly Copy and Past. I can possibly make a small tutorial to show how simple.

If you can use a computer (by that, I mean knowing how to use Copy/Paste Function and saving files), you can definitely master MS Paint as it's very bare bones compared to other programs. Really, the hardest part is getting it down to something that looks like a proper scale for it. Though that is really all the trial and error in it.

The Airgami stuff is free thouh, and I can try to upload the Airgami sheet if anyone needs it so they can edit it to their heart's desire.

You're ruining my buisness! Hahahaha, your right, it's not really all that hard, but it can be tedious and sometimes you need a better program than paint (for transparency properties for example so you can see the bus windows on the other side of the titles) but it can be tedious too if you have to draw pixel by pixel sometimes too.

Here's the airigami sheet if any of you wanna see what he's talking about and wanna try modifying it or printing it as is.

Transparency can be done by hand too. But it the pixel by pixel stuff isn't as bad, especially considering these vehicles do not posses any complex color schemes, nor all that many lines.

But if you were to try something, oh lets say making the bus look like it was made from wood or a tiedye, that might create some issues with either need well known knowledge of using paint (theoretically, everything you can do on a "advanced" program is possible in paint except for making animations.) "Advanced" programs like Paintshop and GIMP just make it all easier. But GIMP is a free program, and just doing some quick reading online about the features, most people can possibly get the most that they need from it.

Wood or tiedye wouldn't be too hard to do. I use Marcomedia Fireworks MX for my GSE modifications.

Yeah, but like I said, on MS Paint, they would be a bit harder to do by hand on the program, as it requires switching colors frequently. It could be bypassed though by copy/pasting a "wood" or "Tyedie" pattern.

how does one use the "transparency" feature on MS paint? and is there a "uniform stretch" option (so it doesn't get distorted)

and even still, you don't have easily modifiable and movable layers on paint.

Ok everyone, i drew up a design for a round-tank fuel truck and i failed miserably! these were the results... Pieces of crap!!! I disposed of it in my fireplace immediately after these pics were taken.

I'm fully ashamed of it...
Here's some redeeming images of some open-top airstairs i made too.

*note, these are all PROTOTYPES hence the graph paper and pen contruction

I'm fully ashamed of it...
Here's some redeeming images of some open-top airstairs i made too.

*note, these are all PROTOTYPES hence the graph paper and pen contruction
I will tell you, for a first attempt at true customs, they are not bad, in my opinion, very far from crap, especially for a concept prototype for this type of thing.

For the Tanker though, I would recommend making something like a small flatbed first (make sure that most of the bed isn't as wide as the truck cab, maybe 3/4 or even 1/2 of the width I thin will do for what I am suggesting next, only the wheels should be the same width), then finding something cylindrical that can be no wider than the truck itself to place on the bed. Before you can place it, you may want to see if it can be further modified to make more an oval shape that you'd typically see on a fuel tanker truck. I think some small amounts of sanding will help there (if it is a small wooden cylinder in the beginning.)

With Airstairs, since there are so many types You can try to see what different types you can bring out. I know that the types that you just push up to the aircraft without a truck cab are quite desirable in the hobby. Try looking up some photos of that, and study to see what you can do.

Yeah the tanker is a complete failiure, the ends are hard to get a good system for with their roundness. In my airport i made, like you said, a flat bed thing with a cab on the front, then i put a hot glue gun glue stick in and covered it in yellow construction paper.

And for Stairs, it's funny you should mention cabless stairs cause i was actually thinking about trying to make something like that in class today. I think i'll draw up a sketch tomorow, maybe make another prototype.

As for trying to make an airigami fuel truck, i don't think it's the best idea to use an airigami tab folding system and you'd be better to make out of other things. However if you want a square shaped tank, i can make a gradient on the edges to make it look slightly rounded at first glance, and it will go together better than my crappy prototype did.

That's why I think it's best not to make the "tank" from Paper. It is just not as feasable to make it look good and still be sturdy in the small scales of 1:400 and 1:500. Best to make a fuel truck that is a "flatbed body" from paper, but with a more solid cylinder to help complete the look.

I am working on a flatbed template, it's nothing fancy, but once I think I am ready to introduce it, I will put it up. I think it should be pretty stable for the 1:400/1:500 scales. Granted though, making a good looking flatbed body isn't easy, but what I'm shooting for is something that can be well built. The Cab that I made looks beautiful, though I'm a bit on the "mehish" on the bed area. Then there is whether or not I got a good width. Of course Trial and error. Only way to learn in the Paper GSE world.

I couldn't agree with you more on the paper tank thing, a flatbed shouldn't be too hard to make though, i'm gonna try one today with my cabless stairs. And yes, paper GSE is a difficult thing to get right.

Looking at some of the designs you've done gave me some ideas on paint. Quick question, the sizes of your airline modified buses, how much would they need to be scaled down to be 1/400?

My Qantas buses.

My Qatar Airways buses.

The best I can say is to do this by Trial and error, if you can get the dimensions of the GJ Bus or something similar, which should be around that neighborhood, you can try to get it down to those sizes, this will involve at least like 3 or 4 tries, but should not be hard to do.

I think I've got the editing bug! Been playing around on paint, modified the original stairs to make them "open top", but the inside will have to be white, however you can put a line on to simulate a banister. Also, only the entry part is open, I'll play around a bit more to get the whoel thing open later, if anyone wants toi have acrack at building it then please post some feedback, I don't think it would turn out very good though. I shall carry on modding a few bits here and there and post whatever I think is good quality.

by the way,if you want them to fit your aircraft, use the "stair" piece twice on one airstair and put them all toghteter and they will fit like on my 773:

Well, I've been looking at the stairs and I can't figure out how to get the whole thing opened up. If someone wants to have a go they can probably do better than I can.

I finally managed to make my Cara catering trucks today. I made 2 of them so far, the risers i made different heights (although i screwed up on the bigger ones). I think they look pretty awesome.
