Superb Diorama no doubt!!

But it would really look more amazing & complete if perhaps you could put more people on the beach, with women & kids playing in the water & making sand castles and others having picnic etc, etc... Just more people on the beach & cars on the road would make it more real such as Spring Break or Summer vacation theme...

I know it would but at $11 for 5x figures (people) it gets quite expensive. I have 4 of the vans which are identical to the ones that drive on the road. I'm dissapointed with the water I created but it's not easy to do on a piece of plank.

Looks awesome! You should set it up with the KLM 747 or the AF A340.

One of the craziest experiences I have ever had was watching a KLM 747 fly right towards me looking like it was going to land right on my head on Maho.

The first aircraft that landed when I was there was a Jetblue E190 and I'll admit I was kind of hesitating standing right under it with the fisheye lens! It's an awesome experience at SXM. The 747 is impressive so close.

I did take some potos with the 747 and A340 but never edited them.

Woah at first glance i thought the first picture was real! Did you use invisible string to hold up the plane?

I used the Gemini stands but it was difficult to photoshop them out. I'll have to figure out a new technique!

Great idea! Good Job!

Last year my wife and me spent 10 days at Mary's Boon Beach Resort. There's no hotel closer to the runway. It has some observation decks for spotters. Several jets made a u-turn right in front of us. It felt as if you could almost touch the wing tips.

Every day we spent many hours at Maho beach as well. We didn't get tired of the jets. Although I prefer the wide-bodies my favorite aircraft was an old "Amerijet" B727-200. When she was on final approach, far, far away, the smoking engines were highly visible.

Our highlight was our daily dose of jet blast. We put on our goggles, climbed to the guard rail and held tight to the fence right in the middle behind the runway. Believe it or not - The wide-bodies were not that exciting. They didn't come very close to us blast junkies and their engines are pretty distant from each other. My personal #1 was an "Insel Air" MD-82. The pilot had mercy on us when we beckoned to him. He knew what we wanted. The jet came to us as close as possible. Keep in mind ... both engines close to each other (feels just like one) at the end of the fuselage. He stopped when we were just behind the aircraft. Although the engines were at full throttle the jet was still standing in front of us. It felt like looking into a hairdryer at the wind speed of a hurricane. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Picture #1 View from our bathroom (Notice one of three observation decks on the picture's left side. The two others were even higher with a better view.)
Picture #2 View from the observation deck (A320 after a u-turn in front of us)
Picture #3 View from our bedroom/balcony
Picture #4 Hotel between the runway and the beach

Fantastic diorama, Jan! You capture that familiar scene beautifully. Love that JCW KLM 744. I'm definitely a fan of their 747s. Looking forward to more Maho Beach setups!

Cheers,

Thanks AB!
It is a lovely model indeed! The only flaw with it are the cockpit windows which aren't straight as you can see in my photo. Otherwise it's a great piece.
