Default New MAN Diorama Questions.....

Hi All...

I want to make a 1:200 Diorama of Manchesters Runway 26L holding points, and am wondering what is the best option for the base? I have space roughly 135cm x 240cm to work with initially so what wood is the best to use? is wood the best option or is there other material?

I have already purchased some model grass to make a start with but i will be wanting tips on how to make tarmac, concrete, taxi/runway markings etc...

Below is a google earth snapshot of what i want to do, i doubt i would get it all on the sized board i can have but i would have to measure up and fit as much as i can on...

All comments and advice very much appreciated...

Chris

Ok... so i have been doing some rough workings out and measurements and it seems that i do have enough depth to incude the Runway and both Taxiways...

I have been looking at photos and youtube videos of 747s at MAN, and using a 1:200 model 747 as a guide, ive roughly plotted out the depth of each section... i think my measurements will be very roughly true to real life

I have no idea how to work out the total length of 240cm yet ill have to think about that... but at least i have the depth

Following on from my initial post and after some very rough calculations, the below photo is what I roughly estimate i can achieve with the space i have.... I can fit most of the runway and taxiways onto the board... ofcourse i will have to see what it turns out like in real life... but im making a start...

All help and advice will be very much appreciated

I do... Just 1:400. And not too realistic. It was the index card one posted a long time ago...

Are you just making the runway and taxiways or are you also building a terminal?

I am just goin to make the runway and taxiways in the picture ive posted

As its my first attempt at a diorama i thought id start with something relatively easy... who knows if i enjoy making this i may venture into a terminal set up... as there isnt much 1:200 GSE around tho it would be a struggle to get the proper terminal atmosphere with GSE too....

I'm not sure what you mean by depth?

You need to measure the length and width. Do you know if this will fit into the space you have? I would recommend Plywood or MDF for the base. You need to measure the distance of the width and length you wish to create in cm, divide by the scale (in this case 200) and that will give you the true size you will need.
