I've been absent for too many shows; I hope to be able to get over there for a show once it's safe to travel again.

Lucky I read this as I had it in my head the show on the 12th was at Kempton, thought LGW was cancelled for the year so that’s a bonus, hopefully the Heathrow fair will stay on for November as well then.

I will be attending that November show. My first visit to the UK since the lock-down. A great opportunity for all the UK members here on DAC to tell me off in person!

Haha! Can’t miss that opportunity then. Awesome, glad you can make it all the way over for that one. Hopefully won’t be a too stressful journey and the virus won’t balls it all up again. Anyway, let’s stay positive. Will have to keep an eye out for ya!

Rise and shine time at the Gatwick Premier Inn. Off I go in search of the complementary transfer bus to the show. Nice flight down from Glasgow last night on easyJet A319, G-EZBC, one of the early fleet densified aircraft, reminding me that as an amputee, I can create my own leg room, just as well ! Let the show commence...

well back from the show. great to see a few old faces! sadly one or two had passed on. thought show was a bit quieter than usual. lots of people but it really thinned out a bit around midday. still plenty there to see and buy. and great to see all the regular sellers still there. prices varied as usual. anyway check link below for some pictures.

https://app.photobucket.com/u/chunky...d-19751ca804ff

only bought a couple of models myself. A JC 1/400 BOAC CONCORDE for £35. And a rare HOBBYMASTER 1/200 BOAC CONSTELLATION. just £45.

I need to attend one of these in the UK!

Thanks for sharing! Crowd does seem to be a bit less from photos, but best time to get pics of the venue and tables!

I'd have bought some of those Western Models items :
Air France Breguet, BEA Ambassador, BEA Viscount (red square), BOAC Strat and possibly some others I can't read.

great to see the show went on. I plan on attending the Kempton show in November already ticketed to come over on Delta. First UK visit since 2020 lockdown.

Can someone teach me how to work photobucket. When I click the pictures of the show nothing happens, I am trying to blow each one up to get a better look?? I have the zoom in all the way too.

Great pictures Robert! That runway diorama really speaks to me. Wish there were more 1:200 runway dioramas for sale. I have so many models that would look perfect lining up for takeoff!

Thanks for the pics Robert, I didn’t do any this time, and that diorama was fabulous.

It was great to be back at the LGW fare but it was most definitely a more subdued vibe than normal, it just felt different. The South Terminal being closed gave the arrival from the Gatwick Airport end a really eerie feeling, as it was just so deserted, with the backdrop of everything that has happened in the past year. The minibus filled up quickly and proved popular, sadly one punter was left behind on the first trip out. Shame they didn’t have the usual Routemaster running as I think they needed it!

It was still an enjoyable day out and I picked up a GJ BEA Trident for £25, an AC Cathay Cargo 707 for £23 (had already gotten this a couple of months back on release but it had QC issues, being so reasonably priced and in 100% condition I thought bugger it, I’ll get it again), and lastly shelled out £65 for an AC Alitalia B.727-200, at a stall which had almost exclusively Aeroclassics models, all new stock from the past years’ releases, with most of the recent hot models in there - PIA/American/TIA/LAM/Varig/BA etc. DC-10’s, Equatoriana/Aero Peru 727’s, Faucett Peru DC-8’s, a Surinam Airways DC-8 which my mate snapped up, the prices were on the higher side at £65+ for most of these. I had the American DC-10 in my hand for a good while and both versions were available, but at £65 each I just couldn’t do it. The ones I really want are the originals that came out way back in 2008 and 2014, being completely polished with more detail on the tail I’d rather put the money toward finding those instead.

A Malev TU-154 was there for £75 plus last month’s BA Landor 732’s which were £50 each I think. Some golden oldie ‘grails were amongst his stock as well. Luckily I had already picked up most of these on release, there were a few more which I may have bought if they were a little cheaper; I couldn’t stretch myself to pay £65-£75 each for a model this time beyond the Alitalia 727 which I had to have. My mate agreed, he would have perhaps picked up more than 1 had they been more around the retail price.

Sadly due to Brexit the Dutch stall wasn’t there, I had a text convo with Rudy who runs it and he says it just not viable anymore, which is a great loss. I’ll have to pop over to the next show in Amsterdam to see them again.

I also found a few old B.A.A documents which were great retro items, along with ‘70’s Qantas and Ansett items. I didn’t bump into anyone this time and as Robert says it did thin out pretty quickly at around midday I noticed. Looked like a decent turn-out generally at the start though. But definitely the usual vibe just wasn’t there, something was missing.

Glad I went though and will hopefully attend the Heathrow show in November.

Ha, we must have been on the same bus then, as I was also on the 0940 and noted the one bloke being left behind. Was busy chatting to a fellow Scottish attendee and his wife that I know from a GLA forum. Apologies for not spotting you.

Yeah South terminal was deadly and completely different from what I'm used to seeing. I flew down the night before because my usual BA early bird was no longer operating and the first Easyjet on a Sunday makes it nearer lunchtime before getting there. I stayed in the ever so handy Premier Inn, right outside North Terminal, and buzzed along on the inter terminal light railway to make the minibus from South Terminal to K2.

Defo a slightly subdued feeling as I walked in, and first thing I noticed was the lack of Dutch contingent. But was glad to see some of the usual guys too, in their traditional spots.

I too felt there was something missing and that prices were high in certain areas. There was a guy selling a load of mint condition old Dragon Wings on behalf of his son, who was thinning out his collection. Lots of bargains there for £12-14 and they all went pretty fast. I got a Royal Jordanian pair of 747-200 and A340-200 in shop condition, very pleased. Elsewhere I picked up Gemini Jets, Cargolux 748 mask, interactive for £39 and the latest An-124 release (Antonov Airlines) for £45, both below typical retail, so happy with those.

I had hoped ARD would have the new Aeroclassics and someone would have the new Panda 134's but alas no. Back to mail order it is, but it was nice to get my annual 'kiddie in a sweet shop' try before I buy experience.

As I was making my final sweep round before going back to Gatwick, I spotted a stall with some old British Caledonian memorabilia and snapped up a Golden Lion metal crest badge for a fiver, very nice.

After that I made for the 1145 minibus back to Gatwick south to once more transfer to 'North' for my traditional lunch and a couple of ales, before flying home on the EasyJet 1515 departure to Glasgow. All in all another good trip, but perhaps not quite as bountiful as previous visits.

Wow, sounds like it was a good show, despite the vibe and thanks for capturing the event some comprehensively in photos RJ! Hope to be able to make it another time...

Got a feeling Alex our paths crossed on the day but wasn't too sure with the masks and social distancing! Tracked down Al for a catch up but tend to agree not the usual Gatwick event, slightly subdued but pricing, apart from Al's man, was retail plus. That said the Mr. Noble was price perfect!

Usually cant find a car parking space at the complex so always park away and walk in, only to find so many vacant lots!

Didn't see a number of the main players, did Adrian make it?

Look forward to catching up at Kempton Alex, perhaps a timed meet?

Adrian couldn't make it as he has just had KNEE replacement. so he hopes to make KEMPTON in november.

for November show suggest a forum 'meet' at ARD table at midday. where we can introduce ourselves. should give enough time to scoot round first and grab a few bargains.

Barison. must be this guy then on AC.

His name is ben. but can't remember surname. known him off and on last few years. used to work for the CAA, but is now a bus driver. and does this in spare time. would have thought he would give a discount for buying multiple?

No worries at all Al - lol yes we must have been on the same bus, we nearly didn’t make it on ourselves but managed to sit in the front with the driver. Yeah the vibe was most definitely off and the empty South Terminal was surreal. I saw those Dragon Wing models which were real bargains, you got a decent haul by the sounds of it. I kept an eye out for those TU-134’s as well but had already put an order in at ARD, we’ll see if they ever turn up! The BCAL badge sounds nice. Glad you enjoyed your visit mate, it was worth going to overall.

Hi Keith - didn’t realise you were there! Yes I had a mask on and with the current backdrop of everything I was very mindful of being as careful as possible as well. I got my GJ BEA Trident from Geoff’s stall, I was well chuffed with the £25 I paid for that. I must have spent a good half hour at one stall going through papers and documents, there were endless boxes full of stuff. My fingers were completely black after that but found a few interesting bits and bobs. Not the usual vibe there for sure. That would be good - I hope to be going to the Kempton show depending on how it all goes, if so I’ll definitely make a point of seeing you there 👍👍

Hope Adrian recovers well from that and can make the next one. That’s a very good idea about a forum meet at 12pm 👍 As the first few hours are always high on adrenalin lol. Hope to be able to make it. Yes Robert - that’s the very stall, loads of goodies on there! Ah ok, interesting, thanks for the background. I should have asked him really, it did cross my mind to do that. I need to get a bit more confident with bartering. I heard him say he’ll be at the November show, if I’m there I might get a second chance!
