Last week I was visiting the UC Santa Cruz campus and learned about the San Francisco show through this thread. Thanks! I decided to go and I am glad I went. It was my first ever airplane show and boy was I amazed! Coming to this show and mingling with fellow collectors gave me so much inspiration about this hobby. Unfortunately I did not take any photos. But there were three 1/200 models that really caught my eyes: A diecast British Airways red tail VC-10 for $130, and two models made of heavy plastic/resin, an Aeroflot Il-96 for $175 and USAF C-141A for $200. I think the seller said it was from England; a PCA brand or something. He was offering both for $350. Since I am not familiar with different types of model make(so far) specially plastic/resin models, I am curious if these were good prices. There were a lot of 1/200 Gemini models. It was great to see these Gemini models that I only see in ad pictures and here on DAC, up close. the Pan Am and Delta A310s were beautiful, I definitely will get the Delta one. Also I found interesting, though in 1/144 scale, was another red tail British VC-10 made by Corgi. I also spent a lot of time on the parking lot just enjoying the different airliners taking off from SFO. To see those different types of aircraft and liveries from Europe and Asia for the first time, flying low and near was overwhelming It was a great day! Thanks.
Thanks for the pics Shandaken! That is great that you were able to add 10 models to your collection.
Boeingboeingboeing, thanks for sharing your experience and glad you enjoyed your first show and taking in a little spotting from the parking lot! It is always good to catch a glimpse of the models in person and the variety. Glad you saw the post here on DA/C in time to attend! Some show promoters advertise their shows here from time to time and some don't. Some of the collectors, however, step in from time to time to do it here on DA.C. Also on the historical airlines association site they have a list of upcoming shows around the world.
