Yup, will be making it to this one. Can’t beat the venue and to spend time with friends.

Sorry, I won't be there.
I know that will put the event in jeopardy, but its for reasons beyond my control.

Definitely a great venue! I attended the last AI held there a few years back and it did not disappoint.

So how much funds have been set aside for spending at the show for those attending?

I remember in my hay day of collecting I would drop anywhere from $1,500 to $2,500. Over the years it dwindled to under $600! That being due to setting some sort of limit/criteria.

Great! Looks like folks are ready for the big show!

Russ, times have changed for sure with the show spending! I remember back in the day thinking you had body quadruples at the shows wearing running shoes, as every time I turned around I thought I saw 4 of you at different tables at once all holding planes!

Yes, that was me for nearly 25 years on a buying spree, that was the name of the game..money no object..today browse around and only acquire something rare and unusual. But to be fair, back in those days there was no internet so it was buy it then or deal with mail order...

Well said!

From all the shows I've been to over the years in the US, Atlanta I think is the best venue. Dallas and NJ are tied for second.

If anybody is going, remember to put some Vick's Vap-o-rub under your nose. The air is permeated with the scents of stale urine, B.O., and depression. AvGeeks are a strange bunch that don't have much use for showers, personal hygiene, or basic motor skills. And an awful lot of them seem to comb their hair with a pork chop.

Not saying all are like this, but a vast majority are completely disgusting human beings. See jcahea's post above about rather going to AI than Cabo with his family for reference.

Dylan...so true. First time I took my wife to an airliner show (Newark I believe) all the creepy wheezers were eyeing her up like a one eyed dog in a meat factory. She walked around with me for about 15 minutes and patted me on the back and said "enjoy the show honey" left and went to the hotel gift shop and bought a magazine sitting outside the show reading her magazine! .

I'm of partial Sicilian heritage and I am embarrassed for some of the paisan's appearance at shows! There is one dude that not only combs his hair with a pork chop, but wears stretchy shorts with a white tank tee. Yes he tucks the tee into the shorts. Yes the waist band of the shorts is right under his teets! .

2 weeks away!

Another skinny paisan walks around like Benny the mooch, walking up to everyone wanting them to take their recent purchases out so he can see. He then critiques the model or in cases that he likes the model will say "how'd I miss that one"!

I was fortunate enough to fly the last revenue Delta L-1011 flight from Orlando to Atlanta way back in 2001.. I had several Delta L-1011 models 1/400 and 1/100 signed by the crew along with this poster signed by the flight crew..will be taking it to Atlanta as an avid collector will be taking delivery of it there. As to what I’m looking for? looking for a few older Gemini 200’s that I regret parting with years ago to fill the missing void..I’m almost there!

You never know what turns up at these events. You may find something in the one to two hours!

Russ, I hope you find them and if you do at good prices!

Todd, it will be a cultural experience like none other. The one day of the year some 40 to 60 year old men have permission from their mothers to leave the house unsupervised!

If I go, maybe looking for Herpa premiums to Enjoy a little while and then flip.

Also maybe some older IF200's...mainly 747's that I missed out on or had then sold.

I went to the AI 2019 page today to look at the vendor list and what tables they had as the show is getting closer, and the list of names was taken off the page for "Privacy Reasons"!

C'mon really...that is some F^%#ing National secret now!

Gotta laugh. Right, that would be a great avatar pic!

The Christmas tree air freshener idea was inspired by Dylan's above comments!

Still don't get the privacy concern about AI taking down their vendor list? Don't get your comment DC-10 Tony re copyright infringement? It is AI's site with attendees for their show. Some vendor probably raised a privacy concern/issue with having their name posted?

Yeah Dylan paints a pretty rough picture. Sad but funny at the same time. Hopefully you'll make it through. I haven't encountered anything too horrendous at the UK fairs - yet - which is pretty good going I guess!

This post definitely catches my attention! I've attended a few shows and have come across such folks as described in detail above, not a lot of them; but a select few. Cheers! T7 (I am a user of Vicks Vapo Rub for chest colds and for the kiddies when they are going thru a cold, this stuff does take over your nostrils)

. I remember the good old Vick's as a kid when sick!

So if you've been to several of these shows including many AI's and at this years venue, do you spend $500 for a hotel, $60 3 day entry fee, $200 to $300 for food & drink, $100 or so travel expense (driving) just to get there and attend or do you stay home in the comfort of your home and use that money to buy some planes on-line? Attending and buying approximately $1,600 to $2,000 or on-line? Interested to see responses!

The internet has killed almost all of these shows over the years. This particular show is different as the venue creates more excitement then some drab ballroom. If your just buying name brand models out of the box then the internet wins. But if you fancy seeing it in person, examining it first, then negotiate a deal, the show wins hands down.

There are also thousands of items at these shows that wont show up on the internet which makes it like a treasure hunt. Just walk the aisles and there is always something for everyone.

True Russ! I see your side for those that have not been, but I have to disagree a little re finding unique items like at the show on-line. The excitement of buying at the show is so much better than on-line as you mention and your point of inspecting the item means so much to avid collectors. Plus you get the cultural experience as well as seeing friends and talking aviation with them!
