You must have taken this picture at the Airspotters stand before I got there. I took the RAF Tristar model home for a smashing £15 ! ;-)

A few said it was quiet, but to be honest, even though there may have been a few less people (probably due to the weather being very nice and the M23 closure causing me a 2hr delay on the way home), I personally did very well and sold a good number of models. Still got a lot left though, so need to flog the wares elsewhere!

Thanks for uploading the pics, it was my second visit to the show this year and I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I also noticed that there were fewer stalls especially for 1:400 models. However the Dutch guys were there with a bigger stall this time and within 10 mins of being there I nabbed 3 rare Big Bird/Aeroclassics 742s (Singapore Airlines 9V-SQP, Air New Zealand ZK-NZZ with 'London' Titles, and a 'British' G-BDXH) - so that was all my spending money gone already pretty much, but at last some more gaps have been filled. Found some mega bargains on another stall right near the entrance where they had loads of Gemini & Dragon Wings, picked up a Philippine Airlines DC-10 in 80s colours for £8 and a Pan Am 741 'First Commercial Flight' for £10, both Dragon Wings and not bad models at all! I really loved that massive Negus 'British' 742 display model, on the stall with some militaria items, which was in immaculate condition, it was gone within the first hour I think, was meant to ask how much it went for but forgot.

Think I saw you chatting with the Dutch guys, did you have a list of 'wants' on paper you were discussing ? Should have said something but never quite sure who's who and don't like bothering people. :D

I saw the big BA 747 too, managed to get a snap on my mobile before it sold, very nice and would go with my recently acquired Tristar in the same livery. I spent my budget in the first hour too, was looking for some relatively recent 1:400 scale releases that I couldn't find anywhere online. So thanks to Airspotters I got the GJ Emirates '1000th 777' release of the 773-ER for £20 and the Jet X RAF Hemp Tristar that was on one of their diorama displays for £15. :p

Over at that stand near the front door with all the bargain GJ's and other stuff, I was looking for a few things and got a brand new American Airlines 787-9 for £27 and picked up a random Net Models Ansett Austrailia 'Sydney 2000' Olympics livery for a measly £10, one engine and a horizontal stab had come off but were in the box and were easily glued back on. I had intended it as a spares donor but not so sure now.

I also spotted a beautiful Loganair Shorts 360 with original red & white early 80's livery in 1:200 going for £40 that I never even knew existed before (not a serious 1:200 collector) but it had the front gear missing and by the time I dithered and came back it was gone. Must look out for one elsewhere now. ;)

Hi Big Al, yes that was me lol, and no worries because I'm exactly the same - I'm a very low-key guy and conscious about bothering other people as well. Those guys are so friendly and helpful though and he took my DiMA wishlist which I brought with me specially, as he might be able to help with finding a few other 'holy grails'. He remembered me from last year, and what I had actually bought, which really surprised me.

Yeah I got a few pics of that big Negus Jumbo as well...oh wow so you have a big Negus TriStar display model then? That's awesome. When I first saw it, and looked at it close up I was really taken with it but it probably would have cost a small fortune plus I don't know how I would have got home using public transport. Plus it really wouldn't have had anywhere to go! It was frustrating that I'd spent most of my money within the first hour - it was great finding those rare models but they are just so damned expensive.

Glad Airspotters helped you out. They had supplied me with the AC JAL DC-10 in 80s cheatline scheme (an online order) which is again another recent release but already impossible to find. Great you got your bargains there :D

That stall near the front entrance was great! Yeah they had loads of recent GJ releases, also a few early releases as well, my friend nabbed an Iberia A-340 (2017) and a 90s scheme Malaysian 744 (2003). All for very reasonable prices. I came back to the stand later and picked up my bargains as well. Your Ansett is worth fixing and keeping!

That Loganair Shorts sounds interesting, shame you missed it but hopefully you'll track one down later on which has the front gear as well. I don't collect 1:200 but I do have two of my all-time favourites in that scale - a Negus 741 and a Negus TriStar :)

Re: Gatwick Show April 2018 Pictues

...and lovely photo! Yes I really loved that display model. Must be from 1981-1983 (I'm assuming it's the original display model from back in the day, seen in BA Travel Agents/Flight Centres) The condition was immaculate. I should have asked about it, also about the company that made them. 1/72 scale I think?

Re: Gatwick Show April 2018 Pictues

A lovely BA 747. I have a Westway 1/100 747-100 in the BOAC ‘Speedbird’ colours, my all time favourite livery on the 747.

the seller inside entrance to the right, is GEOFF NOBLE. He always has loads of models for sale. he is always buying up whole collections. and has found me a good few rare models in the past. AND ge sells them at near normal prices!! he just does all the trade shows round the country. his son who helps, runs an ebay store RONERTALMA 1.

robertjon5, thanks for the very useful info! Not surprised by the prices of those big models. Nice but I'll stick to 1:400 lol. That guy Geoff Noble had some great stuff - in large amounts. Will definitely visit his stall again next time. I'll be at the Kempton Park show in a couple of weeks, hopefully he might be at that one. Prefer the stalls to ebay to be honest. A much more pleasant and fun way to collect :) Also in that bottom pic you've caught a mate of mine, who I was with on the day, leaning over the stall and checking something out ;)

Re: Gatwick Show April 2018 Pictues

yes, Geoff will be there. always is. not sure if I will. its a minimum 75 minute drive for me. Gatwick is well less than half. but always go to 2nd show in November

barison82 04-24-2018 05:35 PM

Re: Gatwick Show April 2018 Pictues

Brilliant! Will look out for him, thanks. I've not been to the Kempton Park venue before. I missed it out last year, problem is that it's so soon after the Gatwick one and I dropped a lot of hard-earned there already, so not much time to recover! I'm lucky living in London near the mainline so I can get to both fairly easily. 75+ mins drive is a fair leg. Might try the 2nd LGW show this year too. Have to start saving big time though!

there isn't a second Gatwick show later this year. (wish there was!!) only Heathrow.

Oh I see! Ok, thanks, I got confused as there was a second LGW fair last November I think? I'll probably do the second Heathrow one then anyway.

Good to see you there Robert and thanks for uploading your pics.
I thought the trader turnout was excellent, although I never found even one 1/400 model from my 'wants' list. I seemed to spend most of the time chatting to many people that know me. It really was a nice social event.

Re: Gatwick Show April 2018 Pictues

It is a good social event, that is true, I also think it's silly that the Gatwick show and Heathrow show are so close together, space them out by a couple of months and then the year would have a good number of events across it, instead of just the start and end!

Here she is, secured with a bit of haggling for £75 from a bookshop in the highland town of Dingwall. I did mean to enquire on Sunday about getting a stand for it, but it went right out my head. Anyone got any suggestions ? The smaller Tristar 500 is the Gemini Jets 1:200 edition added to provide scale.

Looks like it is 1:72. If so, a 10" tripod stand like the following would do (price there is high though) [the same as the stand of the 1:72 BA 747 above]

Hi Big Al - thanks for posting that pic, she is a beauty and a bargain for £75! Very nice indeed. Hope you can find a stand for her. A nice chrome one as leoteo suggests above would suit very well! :) I've got a 1:200 BA Negus TriStar myself - made by Skyline models, which I bought way back in July 2004. It's actually made in England! 1:72 makes 1:200 look tiny!

Thanks for the pictures Robert, really glad you upload them here and still make it exciting even for those who can't make it. I have been to every LGW and LHR show for the past few years. I find it's often the thrill of the chase that keeps me curious! I'd be more than happy to meet at one of the shows, just drop me a PM and I'll send you my number. Always great chatting with like minded individuals!

For reference the Dutch guy's name is Patrick :) Also I think Kevin on this forum has some Shorts 360 models that he's selling.

Thanks for the pictures Robert and Al, I decided not to go this year as had an early flight to Zürich the next day for work. The other years that I have been have always been good but I’m running out of storage space for models so just as well I didn’t go.

Might go to Kempton park next month but I am in negotiations to join a syndicate that is buying a full sized Diamond Katana and will be trying to get to fly a few hours in it on two of the weekends in May.

Well that was one of 'the' busiest H/R shows I had been to!

picked up a couple of models while I was there. actually bought them a couple of months earlier. but I knew seller and collected as I didn't want them getting damaged in post. they were 2 ready built phantom kit models. a 1/72 AARDVARKS, and a 1/48 JOLLY ROGER. I collect mostly military now.

Thanks for the useful info, I'll peruse all these options with interest.
