Default YYZ April show?

Anybody in the GTA know if there is going to be a YYZ April show? Since April is fast approaching. Cheers! T7 (oh, someone asked me the other day on the status of this show)

Update:

Hey, just 'heard' this show was 'CANCELLED'. Also, 'heard' that somebody at one of the 'brick n mortar' stores offered to step in and keep the show going for April. But, I 'heard' that the organizer of the show declined his kind offer/assistance. Oh well, c'est la vie !!

Now I feel bad/sorry for the local GTA and surrounding area collectors. No impact on me, due to my butt being at this show:

Just announced: THE DETROIT AVIATION and AIRLINE COLLECTIBLES SHOW, April 9th at Willow Run Airport, 15 minutes from DTW.

First such show in the area in many years, hosted by the Yankee Air Museum, with planned sponsorship by the Wayne County Airport Authority, the show will take place in historic Hangar One, the gigantic WW II-era building used to outfit the B-24 Bombers built in the Willow Run Bomber Plant. In addition to dealer tables, the show will include large static aircraft on the ramp that you’ll be able to walk around and touch (!), free history tours of Willow Run, and special-rate C-47 (DC-3) rides. In addition, the Museum will hold its annual Bomber Buffing event at the same time right next-door, and the roughly 300 volunteers who polish-up the Yankee Lady B-17 and the Museum’s B-25, will receive free passes into this show. The show hotel details still being worked out, but mark your calendars for April 9th.

Organizers are still working on all angles, but I created a FB page with details to-date, with the show flyer and dealer form you can download. There you can also click “INTERESTED” or “GOING” for future updates via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/915650118500181/

Sure looks a lot better and much more fun than the YYZ show.

In January when I went to pick up my GJ200 WestJet 767-300, at Threshold, we asked the staff about when is the April show, they said that it is likely to be cancelled because of a lack of money. So I doubt it will still be going since it is the 26th already. We've gotta wait until October again!

I see. I guess I am not shocked this show was canned. Not even a heads up notice on the DAC to inform the DAC members about the cancellation. Usually, the organizer is very predictable on posting 'His' shows on the DAC. He comes on the DAC 1-2 months before each show to post and then quickly disappears from the DAC. In and Out! I am going to lean towards the organizer is maybe not feeling well, all the better and more admirable to let someone else step in and keep the April show going. See above post.

Cheers! T7

REST REMOVED DUE TO OFF TOPIC STATEMENTS
Cheers! T7
They said the show did not have enough money to rent the hotel place, but Threshold said they had enough, and they will do it if the show will go on.

I am a bit perplexed by your post??

So the organizer did not have enough money to rent the usual "tiny" ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn? Hmm. When you want to stage/organize a show = you put out a flyer/email blast about 2-3 months ahead that vendors are welcome to participate based on the number of tables they want/purchase. The organizer will collect the table funds up front from the vendors and then will pass that money to the venue. I am baffled why money came into play for him, based on the procedures you would follow to secure a venue for a show?

Now I don't know why you mention Threshold said they have enough? Who is 'they'? Do you mean the organizer or Threshold itself? You have to be more clear and concise.

Then your statement = they will do it if the show will go on. Who again is they? You mean Threshold will do it? But they will only do it, based on 'if the show will go on'.This is totally whacked! But, you earlier said 'the show did not have enough money to rent the hotel place'' So no money = no venue = no show?

So somebody has to make a decision if the show will go on, right? Who is that 'somebody?

I don't know why I am putting too much effort into this post, due to myself being at the Detroit Show. But, I just want to add some clarity to the other DAC collectors who are viewing this thread that I started.

Hey, FXSPilot; I like you and admire how you are trying to provide an answer to my question above. You are cool! Cheers! T7

Sorry I confused you a bit. Tried to type fast before I had to stop "playing" on my computer. I meant that Threshold had enough money to get a table but the organizer of the show did not have enough money to rent the place. But if the organizer gets enough money to rent the room, Threshold will get a table at the show.

Hey, we appreciate the clarification.

So now the organizer has about 2-3 weeks to collect money for an April show to be held in the last week of April. Usually you have to book the venue about 2-3 months ahead of time and put down a deposit to secure the venue. Due, to other reserved events at the venue. I wish him good luck, based on the time frame at hand. It looks like Threshold is just standing back on the sidelines to see if the organizer can come up with the money.

If anything, maybe the organizer should now start collecting funds for that October show you mentioned = that way he might have enough money/funds for that show to secure the venue.

Cheers! T7

I seriously hope they will keep the October show going, although that means in a long time from now. Hope you don't mind, but why do you go to the Detroit show instead of the Toronto one?

So you have resigned yourself to NO April show?

FYI: There have been some people who have offered their services to this organizer to pick up the show on his behalf. But, it's like the little boy who does not want to share his sandbox/toys with other kids; unless you agree to join his little clique that he leads, you are on the outside looking in. That's a fantastic way to attract younger generations into our hobby. Yes, I'm being sarcastic.

I am heading to the Detroit Show along with other DAC members/collectors to experience how much better the Americans put on Aviation collectibles shows to make them more enjoyable and fun. Just check out the Detroit thread here.

I used to sell at that Collectibles show in Toronto a few years back and I made a lot of GTA/visitors very happy and pleased with my various scale models (1/500, 1/400, 1/200, 1/72, 1/18. 1/32, etc..) ranging from commercial airlines to military birds. My first show I did I pulled in over $4,500.00 dollars.

I would rent about 6-8 tables and they attracted plenty of attendees (they would make a bee line from the entrance door to my tables), and even the vendors that were selling there would try to bargain with me on my models before the general public entered. I remember one vendor wanted to give me a personal cheque and that the organizer could vouch for him. I declined his 'personal' cheque and informed him = cash is king.

The organizer's clique were selling what I called 'recycled' models = it's where one show the model will be selling on clique member #2's table, and the next show the same 'recycled' model will be selling on clique member #3's table, and on and on it goes as they pass the model around amongst themselves,, too sad and funny! . Yes, these 'recycled' models were bland.

So I've given you some insight into the YYZ show.

It's much more pleasant now being an attendee at these shows in the USA, and I just sell my models on the DAC or other venues. Don't have to put up with the YYZ organizer/little kid in the sandbox anymore! Cheers! T7

Oh forgot.

I used to give out free models to little kids that were walking around the show with their parents as well. My way of trying to introduce the younger generation to enter the hobby.

I just don't think the April show is going to happen. Did you sell at the show last October?

Yeah, you are probably right in assuming the April show = has been terminated.

Nope, I was done with that organizer about 3 years back. I tried emailing him for 6 vendor tables for a show, but he never replied. No problem = his loss and others who may have attended that show looking for their holy grail for models.

You figure to attract more attendees you would like to have a vendor who can sell a variety and range of models to satisfy the different needs of collectors (commercial and military). Word was that his little clique were annoyed that vendor (moi) was taking away business from them and their bland/recycled models! I felt sorry for them.

Now you can see why this show is at the state where it is now; thus, no April show. Driving to Detroit is worth the time/gas money, because of the step up in how they are much better organized and produced for the collectors. Also, these American organizers conduct themselves as 'Adults'.

Oh, I've had plenty of of fun selling models outside that little show. See my recent for sale thread in the 1/200 section. I need to add more 1/200 models to that list.

Oh, forgot to add. When I emailed him about those 6-8 vendor tables, I sent that email about 2 months before the actual date of the show. So the excuse/reason that maybe the show was full = Will not fly! no pun intended. To back up my character of him being a little child/petty = not even a reply email to our inquires for the show. Yep, that organizer is first class!

I was at Aviation World [YYZ]last weekend and recall seeing a poster/notice in the front hall saying the April show was cancelled [I believe illness was the reason] but that the fall show would go on.

Given the [IMHO] lack of stock, I wonder/ed if A W was/is drain circling and the poster was a remanent from 201x so I didnt pay a lot of attention. Bought some 1/200 shiny things at Threshold.

This interesting as in most years I believe at the October show they have the flyer listed with next years shows(s). This time there was no flyer for this years shows, which let's me believe there were going to be no shows this year. I have seen this show go from the Legion just off Derry Road , then to the Holiday Inn and then to the latest venu(which I have not attended). For the most part I think the show has been going down hill. Therefore I made the choice not to attend. I used to have a vendors table and to be honest a waste of time. I would see the same people run to the same vendor buy and leave not even look at another vendor. I had people look at my models go over to another vendor and buy the same model for a higher price all because they knew the vendor. I could personally walk the show in 10 minutes and have seen everything. To be honest when I see what other cities do for a show this one is a big let down.

This is a post coming from a former vendor at the YYZ show, and is first hand information. I agree with everything that 24r has stated. I would like to add to his stopwatch. I personally timed the walk at the last venue 'Hilton Garden Inn' tiny ballroom - it took me 1 minute and 30 seconds to walk around the whole ballroom and i was dragging my feet. Cheers! T7

You know I am going to enjoy responding to your post when I deem the time is most appropriate and fitting. So, I've marked this post from you as a TO DO on my calendar. I will definitely enjoy providing a more thorough response. I congratulate you for being the 1st on the DAC to have me mark my calendar for a DAC post reply. This will be most fun, because I personally now know you from our meeting the other day!
