It's not likely that your model is made from steel or iron or some other prone-to-rusting metal... It's probably zinc and/or aluminum, and I'm sure you know that neither rusts... they corrode slowly and without a significant color change. If you are still concerned, a metal primer will do the trick.... Paint itself won't prevent the change.
