The MD-11 in my avatar is one of the pair of MD-11's that Delta initially leased from Mitsui to begin operations with the trijet. The tail was painted with the widget design that was very similar to that worn by every Delta DC-10 that came before.
Later on, the decision was made to place the letters " D E L T A " within the blue field of the widget, just like every other aircraft in the fleet. I'm not sure if any of the MD-11's besides the Mitsui pair, ever wore the DC-10 style widget or not.
Personally, I think my avatar represents the more attractive design and I'd love to see a model of the same.
