Indeed, Caledonian wasn’t British Caledonian. British Caledonian was formed through the merger of British United Airways and (the original) Caledonian Airways in the early 1970’s. Therefore, you can find aircraft in B’Cal colours but with “Caledonian” only titles. British Caledonian remained a private airline. When B’Cal was in financial trouble, it was absorbed by British Airways in the late 1980’s, which renamed her charter division, British Airtours, in “Caledonian Airways”.
