However, 3D printing is still far off from the quality of a die cast process. Here's a Schabak Lear that's diecast and is precisely 200 scale. Look at the quality and smooth lines.

There are options to 3D print with various metals, though I haven't tried it yet as it's ridiculously expensive. Your lear looks nice !

I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the 3D printing. For instance, trailing edges are sharp, possibly sharper than on diecast models. Diecast offers smoother surfaces, at least for the time being. I expect this might change with progress in printer; lower cost and better quality are likely.

3D printing will not replace diecast for the top-seller stuff. The main advantage of 3D printing lies with manufacturing. You can obtain models from files. No need to modify a mould to obtain a different scale or another variant. Look at the Shapeways catalogue, some examples hereafter:

German oddities; the VFW 614 is possibly the worst civil aircraft ever certified and sadly it is European.

Yakovlev 42, 727/Trident inspired, obviously

[IMG][/IMG]

Breguet 941 aka McDonnell Douglas MD 188; can be made with Eastern or AAL livery.

Convair bombers. Was fed up to wait for the Herpa Hustler.

Martin bombers.

Got to paint those, one day.
Love the convair bombers! I was gonna get the herpa release of the B58 because I am kinda bad at painting military liveries But glad to know about the falcon 50. I was worried that they got the scale wrong or something.

There's both sold by a UK maker ! Their website is printedplanes.com ; they are about 15 for 1/200 and shipping is super reasonable. They've got a bunch of highly detailed moulds cheaper/not found on shapeways
