I'm not sure that's quite true. Until a few years ago, I was a committed EU fan, but not now. IMO, many things within Europe and the world have now changed. I voted yes 40 years ago, to join the EEC as it was known then, I did NOT vote for a political union, neither did a great many others. In my neighbourhood, the anti migrant sentiments were common, as was the resentment of the 'great and good' ie, business leaders, bankers, celebs etc, scaremongering and making 'threatening' noises about the consequences of Brexit. That played straight into the hands of the Brexit league. I had never seen such ques as there were at our local polling station last night, so I had a feeling that the national turn out was going to be substantial. I have to admit to being shocked at the eventual result, as were the remain group I think.
