Re: What is the market for old Western Models?
The old Western Models will continue to fetch good prices as long as there are no viable alternatives in 1:200 scale, for example the Il-18, Tu-114 and An-22 models. The company that could change that would be Herpa who have just announced a Yak-40 model in 1:200 scale. If Herpa would produce the models mentioned in 1:200 scale, this would cause a large drop in demand for these older WM, which are starting to show their age. Ignoring the "I don't want plastic" posters, myself I am no longer interested in WM An-12s as I find the Herpa alternative just fine. Along the same lines, I am getting the Russian Air Force Herpa Tu-95 and no longer am interested in the corresponding WM model. There's always going to be a market for the older WMs but perhaps more of a niche group of collectors, similar to those collecting Aeromini, etc.
