I own exactly one 1:500 and that's because it's a plane I flew on. Couldn't find the registration on 1:200 or 1:400. Only that and 1:250.

Still collecting these little planes. Latest arrival Herpa United B737 Max 9 N67501. Still have StarJets in my collection.

I got another 35 coming...lol... they are so much cheaper than the 1/200 and even 1/400. Also I can fit more than a half dozen on my desktop in place of one 1/200.

The latest herpa are actually very good in paint details for the size!

I've been considering this scale as well, given my home is only 540 square feet! Just not sure which manufacturers are the best for details and accuracy.

The most common by far is herpa. But make sure you get the next gen ones that are made after the early 2000s. The earlier ones have huge ugly landing gears. Sometimes you don't have a choice but pick the later gen whenever possible with the scaled realistic gears.

But the latest ones are actually very decent for the size. They do have satdome even if missing aerial antennas

others to look at include hogan, inflight500

DIMA database is the best and a huge help. Very complete.

Here's my display/play samples. I have a duplicate of all of these tucked away also.

You have duplicates for every single one? Curious as to why. Be that as it may you are indeed an "Insane Collector".

Thanks for the photos! It's been the bulky landing gear struts that have turned me off to the scale, but it's great to know that, like other scales, vast improvements have been made over the years. It'll be a great way for me to collect Virgin Atlantic and British Airways models without sacrificing space and my bank account!

Not every single ones I have but these play models you see here, yes. That's one luxury with 1/500 is that they are so much cheaper than 1/200 or even 1/400. you can literally get 2-3 or more 1/500 for each 1/200.

My first ever 1/500 was the old style herpa 747-200F from late 1990s. I was so horrified by the giant gears that i literally turned off any thought about 1/500 until i saw a few of the latest 1/500 by chance and saw how much better they are now.

As long as you make sure to get the new gen, it should be all good. A lot of the 1/500 older new gen ones are very cheap. like less than $10usd for each model.

Would you be willing to take a photo of a 1:400 747 next to a 1:500 747? Assuming you own a 1:400.

I used to have around 15 1/500 models, I was collecting all scales back then, I've sold most of them off when I moved entirely to 1/400.
I do kind of miss the scale, as it brings back memories to when I first started collecting and had to save up for a few weeks before my next purchase. Didn't have access to the internet yet so I bought all my models from Hobbyco, good times.
I have a few rare ones left on ebay, check them out here:
https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/qantas72...p2047675.l2562

I'm very open to offers and the shipping price is over (because it's a flat rate and ebay won't allow for a calculate shipping option). Will refund the excess charge.

1/200 1/400 1/500 all together.

The dragon wings 1/400 747-8i is one of my favorite! it's the only 1/400 747-8i that has removable landing gears (like nearly all other 1/400 dragon wings). This livery is very striking!

Thanks for posting these! I agree with you regarding the house livery B748i. It's a stunning aircraft. I'll not forget the day of its first flight. Such a sight to see. And yes, DW has some wonderful 1:400 747s. I've owned several of their 747s, mainly Pan American. Looks like 1:500 scale is about an inch shorter than it's 1:400 scale counterpart.

you decided on what 1/500 models to get yet? I just basically told myself to get at least one model for every type i could find at reasonable price....lol... It's actually quite a lot because you don't just have a330... you have a330-200, -300, F, -800, -900 and so on...
